California Nixes Anti-Gay Amendment As Conservatives Push Congr. For Vote
(San Francisco, California) The California Assembly Thursday voted to oppose a proposed amendment to the US Constitution to ban same-sex marriage, while across the country in Washington, a House committee was hearing testimony from conservative groups on why the ban is necessary.

The 42-27 vote was mainly along party lines. The measure now goes to the Senate. If passed, it does not need the signature of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has said he had ``no use'' for the proposed federal amendment.

But, in Washington, conservatives press on. A House hearing, titled: "Limiting Federal Court Jurisdiction to Protect Marriage for the States," featured testimony from two leading anti-gay crusaders.

Phyllis Schlafly, president of the Eagle Forum, and former Rep. Bill Dannemeyer (R-Calif.) called on the House to follow the lead of the Senate and schedule a vote on the proposed amendment.

2. Thanks
for posting this. I forgot about good old Phyllis Schlafly and I just dropped by her lovely website, eagleforum.org... I see she's still spouting the same self-righteous egomaniacal tripe.

Good for San Francisco!
