1. Classic
This is going to be funny.

Bush will try to blame MoveOn.org, which will only bring more attention to the ad on the front page of Bush's website, which looks like an anti-Bush ad.

Go Kerry!

4. I can see Rove
getting all twisted up in the explanation...

well we did it (post something stupid and vicious) because someone entered something like it to a liberal website contest and so we thought, hey, let's use it.....well, no, the contest didn't select it as the winner, well no, they removed it from their site, ..well.

Hey, maybe a Republican plant entered into the moveon contest hoping it would win, and when it didn't, republicans thought this would be another way to use it....

9. But MoveOn.org never used that ad
right? If true then we are clean.

11. I saw it on moveon.org's website, and it got TV air time, because

of the sensationalism of it. It was also e-mailed around the country (the world?). There was a video contest @ moveon.org, and the Hitler ad won, mistakenly.

16. I thought...
that MoveOn pulled the Hitler ad from the "Bush in 30 seconds" contest before any voting.

Child's pay was the winner

20. They did. But then the Hitler ad "accidentally" won, I think I heard
them say. I saw parts of the ad played on TV, with a simultaneous interview. Moveon said it was an accident that the Hitler ad won. That's what I recall, anyway. (But I'd seen it before then; someone e-mailed it to me, and I saw it on moveon.org's website, I think.)

23. No. The ad was pulled from the site and contest, Somebody is feeding
you some stuff you shouldn't be so willing to swallow. Try to recall who gave you that idea. Either they have also been deceived and should be alerted, or they are doing a Con job.

big difference.

In fact, MoveOn isn't even affiliated with Kerry Campaign.

21. They didn't do that ~ They called them wild eyed and used the moveon
ad as evidence of that. I can see how it is so confusing but the small blip in the Bush* ad is a shot from the moveon ad. I am not defending Bush* in any manner I just want it understood what we're complaining about. Let's not make fools of ourselves.

6. Should have mentioned Grandpa Bush!!!
I think they should have pointed out that it was Chimps grandfather that had a connection to Hitler.

Something like "...and anyway it was the President's grandfather who
had a business deal with the Nazis..."

7. The ad uses parts of moveon.org Hitler ad, so unless the Kerry camp
also issued statements like that about that moveon.org ad, I'm afraid he doesn't have the high moral ground on this issue.

But I don't think Kerry is making a public statement about it, is he? Or is he? Or did the statement just come out in an fund-raising e-mail?

Where was the statement issued? Is in on johnkerry.com, or was it given to CNN or something?

15. Do you know to whom the statement was made?
The reason I ask is that....I hope the statement wasn't JUST made in a fund-raising e-mail. I would be disappointed, to say the least. But if it was (campaign statement, candidate statement = same thing) made to CNN or some news agency, that's different.

Kerry Spokesperson Calls on Bush to Apologize for Using Images of Hitler on Website

June 25, 2004

For Immediate Release
Washington, DC

Kerry campaign spokesperson Phil Singer issued the following statement in response to the Internet ad on George Bush's website featuring images of Adolph Hitler:

“The fact that George Bush thinks it’s appropriate to use images of Adolf Hitler in his campaign raises serious questions about his fitness to spend another four years in the White House. Adolf Hitler slaughtered millions of innocent people and has no place in a campaign that is supposed to be about the future and hope of this nation. The President’s use of these images during a month that evoked the memory of World War II is remarkably insensitive to the sacrifices of the millions of people who lost their lives during Hitler’s reign of terror.
“The Bush Campaign should immediately remove these hateful images from its website and apologize for using them. The use of Adolf Hitler by any campaign, politician or party is simply wrong.”

(so glad to hear this statement wasn't just in fund-raising e-mails, and that they criticized the moveon.org's ad. While I thought the moveon.org Hitler ad was eerily accurate, it would not be great to complain about the RNC's if we didn't also complain about moveon.org's. Since the RNC ad Hitler parts seem to be excerpted from the moveon.org ad.)

22. Trash Get used to it this Gang terrified of losing
I recall so clearly Voodoo Wimp saying

"I will campaign on issues."

Then 16 points down and he said "I will do anything to win" as he went into trashing.

Character. Tells you much about Bush Family character and genes.

This is ,honestly, one of tragedies in our history.

20-30 years from now this will be labeled "blackest mark in our history".

24. Whenever Hitler comes up, I always remind Reich wingers that
Karl Rove was the first person to compare Bush to Hitler. Of course it was in an admiring and worshipful way.

From Drudge excerpting from Woodward's book "Bush At War:

ROVE THOUGHT POST-9/11 WORLD SERIES GAME LIKE NAZI RALLY

"The president emerged wearing a New York Fire Department windbreaker. He raised his arm and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd on the third base side of the field. Probably 15,000 fans threw their arms in the air imitating the motion.

He then threw a strike from the rubber, and the stadium erupted. Watching from owner George Steinbrenner’s box, Karl Rove thought, It’s like being at a Nazi rally." (p. 277)

28. Remember the heat we took about making historical analogies?
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 07:29 PM by chookie
Some of us -- myself included -- have from time to time outlined parallels between the 1930s in Germany and His Chimperial Highness's 'Murka. Few of them were on the level of "hate speech" -- certainly, for my part, I pointed out analogies with solemnity, trying to bring attention to certain processes in each that are strikingly similar.

We were usually read with much interest. However, some accused us of being over the top, that Bush was no Hitler because such a villain is singular, and George never killed 6 million Jews. We were pressured to stop these "hateful" analogies. "Just think what people from Free Republic wil think!" some cried.

I, and others, hold fast to the analogies we made, and again, let me repeat that it was all undertaken with gravity and care.

Now, it would appear that the Right Wing Flying Monkeys *have* begun to use this vicious analogy -- and without, mind you, the same careful historical analysis that some of us outlined. It is, I would argue, pure hate speech in a very vicious election year, carried out in a desperate attempt to scare people back to Bush.

I wish to predict that, as "lying" was the theme of the last election, "madness" is going to be the theme of this one. We are going to be described as crazed fanatics following insane demogogues.

Of course, this is laughable, especially as opposition to Bush grows daily, and in some supposedly "unlikely" places (BULLSHIT! Opposition to Bush is rampant and spreading among Sane Americans) -- but the Roverites have got to convince their wacko base that we're back to our old plans of installing Hillary as World Dominatrix, who will take Osama bin Laden as her Dark Prince Consort -- to get them to do ALL kinds of nasty and dishonest stuff to protect their beloved country from the unspeakable -- PLUS convince people who have not been paying attention AT ALL and who are still too stupid to see what is really happening, and brainwash them to think "Kerry is an insane and dangerous Demogogue supported by radical fanatics bent on destroying our country" or "Kerry reminds me of Hitler, and I'm scared of the Democrats who support him -- it's like Nazi Germany ."

Wanna bet that's what the script they are going to try to get the "Undecideds" (aka The Hopelessly Credulous) to repeat over and over and over and over?

Oh well -- there we go again -- frightened into abandoning a potent historical analogy because it might not be nice -- and NOW the Death Star has seized it and plans to use it against us.
