F911 Screening Report
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 06:04 PM by ALago1
3:55 P.M Matinee showing in a fairly large New Jersey suburb

Theater was not sold out (wasn't expecting so for a matinee) but it was pretty packed. Incredibly supportive audience which laughed, cried, and applauded at the conclusion of the film. I can't recall the last movie I've seen which got enthusiastic applause.

Quick capsule review: Excellent. Aside from unabashed liberals such as ourselves, this is a perfect movie for centrists, old fashioned conservatives, and those not in the political loop to see.

Please take a friend. I made my parents and sister come along. My dad and sis were never staunch Bush advocates so the film just pushed them farther away from him. However, my mother, who was an obedient Bush supporter who supported the war and believes everything she sees on TV, came out with her head spinning and was especially pissed at the Saudi-Bush connection discussed in the movie. Said she'd like to see it again because there was just too much info to absorb.

Michael Moore takes everything that we've known or perhaps forgot about and weaves it together making a very cogent and persuasive argument in opposition to George W. Bush. My greatest fear is that the only people who will see this movie are those who already are staunch opponents of his.

1. Certainly,
that is a concern - "My greatest fear is that the only people who see this movie are those who already are staunch opponents of his."

but I believe there will be undecideds who will see it. I also believe there is enormous value in being at a gathering of people who feel as DUers do - and to have clapping and acknowledgement of the truth finally breaking thru.

A big part of Bush's* success has been to isolate the voices who are willing to speak up, willing to report, the truth - to make them fearful and to make them feel alone.

Last year and this spring, working on the primary campaigns of various candidates, my family's greatest strength was to go to gatherings and events and see and hear other people who felt as they did. This film brings us together, our voices, so we do not feel isolated. For those that don't post to DU or other forums, or perhaps don't even use the Internet - this movie will bring enormous emotion because of the sense you are not alone.

The power of this movie is that it tells the truth, but also that it brings together people who have been isolated for 3 and 1/2 years.

2. Your last paragraph hits it right on the head
I posted my review earlier today and said something very similar.

If we want this film to have the effect we desire, we need to make sure non-hard core news junkies see it.

My summary of the movie in one line is everything we have been ranting about for the last 4 years rolled together into one 2 hour movie.

3. This film's power lies in its ability to enlighten the undecided
Like "The Passion of the Christ," Moore's latest film will undoubtedly serve to preach a message already known by the audience. That is, his supporters and those who already oppose Bush will flock to the film. More importantly, the controversy and buzz created by this film will attract lots of "lookie-loos" who simply what to know what all the fuss is about. It's those people who are in for an education, and George Bush who is in for the mother of all enemas from the American electorate.
