Nightline/Kerry tonight.
On the Road
Friday, June 25
It may be an average day on the campaign trail for Senator John Kerry, but it is one where the candidate is in a key district in a key battleground state. If he can win over voters here, it could make an enormous difference in this very close race. Ted Koppel joins this presidential hopeful as he campaigns through Ohio and New York

2. This is the Kerry .I want to see.
This is a good one so far folks. We have the plant closing leaving people with no health care. We have the newly returned military guy coming home to his mother losing her job of 33 years . He speaks of low morale and soldiers with no body armor. The plant that helped build the World Trade Center and Empire State building now finds their materials now stamp “Made in China”. This a lot better coverage of Kerry than I have seen from the media.

3. kerry just said the greatest thing ...
... Ted Koppel was asking Kerry what he thinks about people viewing him as gloomy, pessimistic, etc.

Kerry said he is capable of being "footloose and fancy-free" and having as good a time as the next person.

"But," he said, "these are serious times. We need a serious person to be president."

AMEN, brother!

Great, great line. Kudos to whoever penned it. Nicely done.

5. it's probably the Kerry people in Iowa saw
i haven't watched it yet. but i know nightline tends to be fair so i will watch when it comes on the west coast. but if it's the way i think it is i assume they will show us the real kerry, the one people in Iowa saw which is why he ended up winning. not just a few soundbytes followed by whore pundits which lie about what he says and put it out of context.

6. I think you are right.
I think Kerry is finally developing the way he presents himself. In the car with Ted Koppel he said he watched himself and the person he saw reminded him of the character Robert Redford played in the movie “The Candidate” where he is riding in the back seat of a limo and reciting political rhetoric to himself and in the big middle of it Redford’s character starts chanting blah...blah...blah... Kerry said something to the effect that there were two kinds of talking to the public. One is the blah-blah character and the other is talking to people. I realize this is a somewhat clumsy description of what was on Nightline but the main thing that I got out of it is that Kerry is finally developing his mannerism for a presidential candidate from the blah-blah candidate to a more personable. I think someone must have sat him down (probably Teresa this sounds like something your wife would make you do) and made him watch hours of himself on TV. If you can survive that it is a change for the better and a vast improvement on the somewhat mechanical Kerry.
