How do we capitalize on the success of F9/11 and get rid of Bush?
Thousands of people will be seeing this movie in the coming weeks. For us, it will hold few surprises. For many, though, it will be as if a veil has been lifted from their eyes.

So, how do we turn this enlightenment and outrage into action? How do we get them mobilized? How do we channel this energy? Ideas?

2. you could always stand in front of the theatre
with a sign "Hitler would not have let you see this movie"

Or if Moore can arrange an October DVD release with proceeds going to Kerry...buy 3.

6. Can't do it
Election donation limits.

And Kerry should just play the innocent bystander. After all, we don't want to give the GOP too much ammo, do we?

3. I'd propose that..
we each get one swing/apolitical/open-minded Republican to see it. In theory, if it converts even a mere 25% of those who see it, we gain turnout for our side.

Another proposal: we write to Moore asking him to release it on home video early. Either that, or we propose that he somehow gets one day of free screenings during the week of the GOP convention. Maybe a letter-writing campaign would work?

4. DVD should be out in the fall
Until then, sit back and watch Bush destroy his presidency.

As I've been saying, give him enough rope and he'll hang himself. I honestly believe that.

Shit, Kerry might as well take October off.

5. Register them.
We need to be at theaters with voter registration forms available. JohnKerry.com postcards and stickers to pass out. Wear DemocraticUnderground.com stickers (those spares from fund drives past can come in handy!).

12. Kerry for Ohio reps were in the theater lobby
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 10:33 PM by Kukesa
tonight in Dayton with volunteer sign-up sheets and voter registration cards.

I wore my DU "revolution" t-shirt and answered several questions about DU.

Also a few Dem politicians were in the lobby passing out election material; it was good to meet them. And it was great to be in the crowd waiting for the film to begin -- lots of excitement and expectation. Moore didn't let us down.

On edit:
I really meant OHIO for Kerry, but actually -- if he brings some jobs to this state when he's president, Kerry for Ohio sounds good, too.

23. Yes I am.
I have a small stack of forms to take with me tomorrow, and if it goes well, I'll be heading down to the county building to pick up more for next weekend. I don't have Kerry stickers, which on second thought is probably OK. But I will be wearing my DU sticker. :)

how that goes. I wonder if theater owners would have a problem with passing out literature. Would you ask permission or would you just do it and see if they ask you to stop?

29. I plan to just do it.
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 01:06 PM by jono
If I'm asked to leave, I'll stand outside on the sidewalk. The sidewalk is public property, so there's not much they can do at that point.

(I might add that I am acting alone. If I were doing this with a group, I would be more inclined to ask for permission.)

edit: I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. :)

11. get them to join the online discussion......
seriously, I think lots of people are outraged, but isolated and want to be connected, but have felt isolated or unaware of some of places, like DU.

To that end, we should get DU business cards made up....classy ones that have the website DU Logo/HTTP and printed, blank or customer with our screen names. Connect personally, urge them to join and bring the distant tribes together for the big pow-wow in November.

18. what sort of mind-numbing silliness is that?
sorry. rhetorical question.

if this movie's huge crowds are only made up of the hate-filled, and 3% more of those hate-filled were to vote in this next election, it could have a huge impact. hate-filled or not, people are going to this movie.

but somehow, i doubt you're really in this only for the mushy anti-platitudes.

25. His point is basically correct
A few people might change their mind from seeing this picture. On the whole I think it is just preaching to the choir. The positive aspect of getting a few people to vote for Sen. Kerry will probably be offset by those who will see it as a nasty, and irresponsible attack, on Bush.

It won't change things much. Moore is just too partisan.

20. Did you see the movie?
Would you be kind enough to point out the specific scenes that conveyed a tone of hate?

Guess what? We ain't buying that "appeal to the liberals better instincts" this time around. The repugs brought this fight down to the gutter and that's where we're going to fight it.

24. Preaching to the choir
The picture might change a few minds, but it is too polemical to make a major difference. Granted, in the present bitter political environment, a few could be important, but I doubt it. The true believers will see it and agree. True believers on the other side will ignore it.

The undecided will probably view it as too partisan and hence make up their minds based on other sources.

26. The choir consists of the people with the voter registration forms

The film itself is aimed at people who haven't been converted yet. Nobody is going to ignore this film because it is just too hot. Only die-hard pukes will avoid seeing it. Anyone who is undecided will want to see what the fuss is all about. If they are undecided, it is probably because they don't know the facts, and F9/11 is crammed full of facts in living color on the big screen in easy to digest bites.

Moore's national on-line town meeting Monday night will mobilize more people to get out there with voter registration forms.

We also have to volunteer to help Bev monitor the polls on election day.

This used to be called consciousness raising. I took flyers with me and passed them out, and many others had brought Kerry buttons and stickers, and deception dollars. Michael Moore's website has many links to vital activist groups.

If there's one thing living in a capitalist country has taught us, it is how to capitalize on something. To stop Moore now, you'd have to bring down the whole internet, and I don't think Bill Gates would let that happen. We're ona move!
