Just saw Fahrenheit 9/11 in Houston -- WOW
I was amazed at the turnout. It was in the largest theatre at the AMC Gulf Pointe 30 and the line for the 7:05 show snaked throughout the main lobby, down the corridor, and into the side lobby. When the movie was over, the lines for the 9:45 show were even longer!!!

What was especially heartening to see in HOUSTON, where activist Democrats are primarily union workers and minorities, is that these crowds were 99% white, middle-class folks of all ages. And the audience clapped, laughed, gasped and gave a cheering standing ovation at the end. The comments I heard in getting down the aisles at the end were mainly "I'm going to see this again."

We all owe Michael Moore a debt of gratitude. I can't believe that anyone seeing this movie could EVER vote for a Bush again. This movie is HUGE!!! The Republicans should be very, very afraid.

Also, I think this movie will light a fire under our Democrats in Congress. They should all be ashamed of their puniness in light of what we now know. Also, it's blatantly obvious why the news media is trying to marginalize this movie -- it shows them for the rah-rah warmongers and Bush-zombies that they are.

If you have not yet seen Fahrenheit 9/11, Go Go GO!

2. I went in Austin.
Sold out!!!! For us Vietnam era kids, get out and see this. I remember coming home after school and seeing wall to wall war in the news. It forced us to look at what we were doing and to question it's validity. Michael Moore is doing with the film what the media has so miserably failed to do and that's show us what the real cost of war is.

3. Beautiful Move! I expect it to be an enduring classic for me.
Like Stanley Kubrick's 2001, On the Water Front, To Kill a Mockingbird and others . . . .

4. Daschle saw the movie
I hope he feels VERY ashamed. I hope every congressman who didn't stand up - who let the theft of democracy take place - feels intense shame.

5. I was at the same theater at the 7pm show!
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 10:35 PM by Lisa0825
Did you happen to see me? I had my (dark blonde) hair in a pony tail, and I had my convention shirt on, the one that says Fighting for Democracy on the front and has a quote on the back, "Democrat without prefix, suffix, or apology." I got a few compliments from strangers on the shirt!

Did you notice the police inside and outside of the theater? I hope they were Republicans and had to watch it to watch us!LOL

I was between two older men, one probably in his 60s, one over 70, and all three of us were crying at parts, clapping at others, and laughing out loud at others. It was hard to watch in many places, fun to watch in others. It was really cathartic.... a true emotional experience.

6. Hey, that's just down the road from me.
I normally wait a few weeks before seeing a new movie at Gulf Pointe 30.

It's great to see the turnout at that theater. I think Clear Lake and Pearland are very conservative areas.

For those of you outside of Houston, Gulf Pointe 30 is not that far from Brazoria county - home of the pest master himself, Tom Delay.

7. Yes, and Delay's opponent, Morrison, had presence there....
several volunteers showed up in their Morrison shirts, and one handed out voter cards outside afterwards.

CL and Pearland are rather conservative, but this was also the closest theater to Galveston County, and WE are Democratic!!!:-)

8. I was in line with the Morrison people and volunteered to work
Regarding the police, near the end of the movie I had to run to the ladies room and noticed the police officer in the walk-up area. His eyes were glued to the screen. I don't think he even saw me walk past. This guy was definitely into the movie and it made me feel good.

9. Saw it too
at the Landmark River Oaks here in Houston. It was fantastic. The theater's not very far from the HE Bush's Houston digs and the lines were crazy. It sold out the 7:00 and 7:00 screenings and the 9:00 line was enormous. The local all-news station was there to film - it'd be interesting to see what they had to say.

The film is outstanding. I hope everyone who can will see it this weekend so that its success will have to be reported next week.

10. Saw it in Atlanta
Huge enthusiastic turnout--on 2 screens at the plex where I went. Cops at the entrance to the theater; did they take DNA samples off the popcorn buckets after the house emptied? I haven't seen such buoyant spirits for our crowd since the Lysistrada Project.

Great movie, a must-see. I'll go back again. And will tell everybody I know to see it too. Hope it sets box office records.

Thanks, Mike.

I was also looking in my rear view mirror all the way home.... on our way back from the Crawford March 20 protest, we got pulled over, and I have been paranoid ever since!LOL

11. The 2 crowds I saw in Ft. Myers
Were of course 99% white, but 90% over 45. That surprised me, I expected it was going to be a LOT of young people. That wasn't the case. Which is GOOD! Older people vote.

The theater was jammed packed and the movie received a long applause at the ending. People looked shell-shocked. Wonderful movie, everyone should see it.

15. A group of us are going to the GulfPoint 30 or Willowbrook 24 tomorrow.
I hope we get tickets before they sell out. I take it you didn't run into any freeping bushbots? And btw, the repukes are afraid. Every channel I watched today had a segment on 9/11 opening today and their reporters were all negative. The repukes have the media on their side on this one. But I do not care, I still plan to see it in spite of what those media whores say.

Take that Bush!

19. Is the movie suitable for my 13 year old daughter to see?
I think she is mature enough to handle the political stuff, but I am concerned about graphic violence which lead to the R rating. Is the rating deserved, or are there parts of the film not suitable for a young teen?

21. I now understand the "R" rating. This is a strong film.
There's a lot of frightening stuff shown. The war footage is powerful and some of it was hard for me to watch. This is a film for older teenagers and up, IMO.

22. it deserved a PG13, IMO
There was not much violence, more the aftermath of violence. Bodies and such. My kid is 8, so I think she was still too young. But, in my own, personal, parental opinion, you are doing your daughter a great injustice by NOT taking her. Really no worse than Lord of the Rings, at any rate.

THE IMPORTANT THING:
Those bodies aren't the gut-wrenching, tear-jerking, grown-men-weeping scenes. Those come from the "political" scenes of mothers grieving and presidents laughing.

25. It's graphic, but I knew when to turn my head. I think it depends on your
daughters temperament. If she's highly sensitive, you might want to wait?

20. Photos of opening night showings
Check out this link to Moore's website. They've already started posting pictures. Many theaters sold out.

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latestnews/breakingnews/index.php?id=31

One theater in N.Y.City's East Village added showings throughout the night and straight into the morning.

26. My 71-year-old mother
saw it at the big dome theater in Pleasant Hill, Calif. today. She said the afternoon showing was about half-full (and that's a BIG theater) and when she left there were big lines for sold-out shows. She LOVED it and wants to see it again. We're going tomorrow up here in Portland. Can't wait.
