"Don't try to take a speck out of your eye, if I got a log in my own."

Huh?

Chuckling in the a.m. in the UK, reading Bush's reply to Irish journalist Carole Coleman's question about his "devotion to the Lord":

"I get great substance from my personal relationship (with God)," he said. "That doesn't make me think I'm a better person than you are, by the way, because one of the great admonitions in the good book is, 'Don't try to take a speck out of your eye if I got a log in my own'."

Here's a link to the rest of the article, "Stepping Out to a Cold Irish Welcome":

On edit: The actual Biblical quotation, from the book of Matthew --

"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

3. He was answering the question
"Do you think God is guiding you in your war on terror" or something like that.

Strange that Bush would think of that verse while thinking about what God thinks of his uber-judgemental war on terror: clean up at home before you try to fix other people's messes.

4. Oh my god. He is nothing but just a bonafide disaster.
This is bad. "Don't try to take a speck out of your eye if I got a log in my own"! The Religious Right might want to think about a personal tutor or maybe just bailing on Bush, it might be in their best interest before he does any more damage. Oh yeah, right, they want Armageddon. He's bound and determined to "Bring it On" for them apparently and we all know they are just waiting for the "Rapture".

Irish TV Crews Catch Bush Changing Clothes
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: June 26, 2004

NEWMARKET-ON-FERGUS, Ireland (AP) -- Dromoland Castle's presidential suite in west Ireland offers luxurious accommodations for the rich and the powerful, but privacy sometimes is in short supply.

President Bush, on an overnight stay in the $1,500-a-night suite, was spotted by television cameras as he was standing in a T-shirt at his window. He was visible from the waist up, apparently as he was changing clothes.

An embarrassed Irish government quickly tried to prevent the release of the images....

8. Well, his quoting is close enough
"Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?" (English Standard Version)

The annoying thing is that he's still drawing attention to his piousness, by putting in a quote from the Bible (and calling it 'the good book' - one of my personal pet peeves - it's so bloody twee). It's still hypocritical.

10. His quote isn't close enough, it's not even in the same ballpark,
His mis-speak doesn't come close to reflecting the meaning of the scripture.

12. Now Lowered! Bush's IQ
Everytime the man speaks I'm reminded of that wonderful line from Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in "Aliens":

Did IQ's sharply drop while I was away?

17. Apparently that is the only scripture quote he can remember.
I have heard him say that more times than I care to remember and when I heard him during the interview in Ireland I just wanted to :puke:
He doesn't reference the entire portion of the scripture that you have kindly provided because he is afraid someone might throw it back in his face because he is a hypocrite.

The GOP is notorious for taking things out of context and quoting only what they want to quote. Their spin is true and others' spins are labeled, lies, half-truths and propaganda.

Jerks! Be gone you demons!
