Subject: White House bans staff from Fahrenheit 9/11

Campbell Brown has been filling in on Hardball the past several nights.

'Hardball with Chris Matthews' for June 23 (MSNBC)

BROWN: Real quick—we‘re almost out of time—but how—how—given how the Bush
administration is reacting to the 9/11 film, which is, you know, banning their staffs from going to see it or anybody...

HITCHENS: What?

BROWN: I know. Is it the right approach?

HITCHENS: I didn‘t know that. But, if so, then it would be something to add to my long list of
misgivings about the Bush administration.

THOMASON: And that will jump their grosses up.

HITCHENS: You can‘t fight -- I say in my piece, you can‘t fight one kind of stupidity and cowardice with another. It‘s silly to try.

BROWN: All right, we‘ve got to go. I want to thank you both for joining us, Harry Thomason and Christopher Hitchens.

3. Oh, how can they ban anybody?
Who's going to know if you see it or not? DO they send Secret Service agents home with the WH staff evenings and weekends?

13. I think it's a warning....
That a picture had better not pop up of Condi and Colin walking out of the theater. I'd pay for that, and so would JK.

4. I wonder how the staff feels about that?
I think most of us would get indignant and contrary being told what not to do with our off time -- not to mention the suppression of rights involved. But I wonder if the Staff sees this as the invasive violation it is.

7. bloggers, start your keyboards!
Now's the time to start posting the rumors: "I was at F911 in DC, and *guess* who I saw in the lobby going into the movie!..."

8. They are his sheep, they follow their master
and do his biddings. Do you think anyone not brainwashed by the neo-cons BS would continue to work for the administration? They have seen weedboy at his worst (cussing, spewing hate and filth, mocking others, bigotted and unrestrained), they know more facts than the average joe about the workings of the WH.

That they continue in their service to weed boy and his band of repukes is testiment to their blind idol worship and their disdain for our nation's principles. They won't make a fuss. (also, they know that bushco has the poop on them and their family - don't want to take the chance of pissing off the mob)

6. Uhooooo, this picture must be really good!
....the freepers and BushCo are terrified of it. They are turning the film into the forbidden fruit of the knowledge of good and evil!

10. When did Hitchens change his allegances?
Isn't he the same unruly-haired guy who has been bashing the Dems for years??? I saw him yesterday on Crossfire and I couldn't believe what I was hearing him say and that he was in agreement with Charlie Rangle (D. NY) What's going on? Has he finally seen the light??

HITCHENS: I didn‘t know that. But, if so, then it would be something to add to my long list of
misgivings about the Bush administration.

17. No no no no no no no no no no etc.
Hitchens is still firmly in the camp of the neocons. He actually has not always been a friend to the right. Before Clinton took office he was considered a solid old-guard socialist. The Clinton "scandals," his association with Andrew Sullivan, and 9-11 pushed him to the neocon circle. He was a staunch supporter of the Iraq war and still defends it with much equivocation. The media has had him around recently for two apparently conflicting essays he's written within the past month: one bashing Reagan and one bashing Michael Moore.

He's as contrarian as they come. Utterly irrational and a dogmatic Orwellian.

20. Why does this remind me of the Chinese Emperor
who ordered all books burned, so that history could start with him?

Here's another tidbit from the Department of the Weird and Strange:

Douglas Feith has forbidden everyone in the Pentagon from reading the Taguba Report which came from the Pentagon. This report is out on the Net. It's been heavily reported in the papers around the world, and he's trying desperately to keep a lid on it.

F911 will have to stand in front of the press and explain Bush policies.
