Folks on line at F9/11 pelted with tomatoes (Denver)
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 01:35 PM by librechik
It happened just before we arrived, but tomatoes were all over the street, and amused filmgoers were shaking their heads over the attack. They said a bunch of "Young Republicans" drove by and threw the tomatoes out of the car at them.

Should have brought the pretzels, I guess! Let's do lunch!

Witnesses say "What lame-os" (I don't think they managed to hit anybody.)

Except for those a-holes, as we stood outside the theater, car after car passed us honking support and hands waving the peace sign at us. It was a heartwarming and rousing community event. We bonded.

Inside, great crowd reactions. Somebody in the first row set the tone by saying "Fuck You!" the first time Bush showed his face, during the intro. Applause and cheers at that. Encouraged similar treatment for all the bastards for awhile, until the film turned heavy. Then weeping and laughter interspersed with gasps and head shakings. Long applause for the soldier who was with Michael in DC, when he said he'd rather go to jail than go back.

We were very cheered up and surprised by the civil but boisterous response to Michael's opus. Everybody loved it. The show didn't start until 1 am, but the theater was pretty packed anyway. Denver can be a great place sometimes.

1. Pretzels vs. tomatoes. Well, I think the Young Repubs
will do more damage. *l*

2. How juvenile.
Throwing tomatoes at people who want to see a movie. It shows you how mature they are. :eyes:

4. That just shows how petrified they are of free speech.
I hope someone got their license number and files assault charges.

It may have been funny if you were there, but it sounds creepy from here.

9. Creepy -- with a whiff of fascism thrown in
But I'm really glad the moviegoers found it amusing.

Great report!

5. response to film
Somebody in the first row set the tone by saying "Fuck You!" the first time Bush showed his face, during the intro.

I knew if I didn't say it, somebody else would!

Your crowd sounds a lot more "interactive" than ours. But I really wanted to applaud when the soldier said he would not go to kill more poor people.

There was applause a couple times in the audience I was in, however.

6. I was in a rather "inter-active" crowd, too
Lots of the same reactions as you state and one loud dayum when it was revealed that Baker was the Saudi's lawyer.

The ending was a kick in the gut for me (he was in Nashville when he said that) and was met with lots of groans and headshaking and some laughter. Someone did say fairly loudly...this state was red why?

10. Out of curiousity, which theater in Denver?
I was at the Esquire at about 8:00 PM Saturday and there were 2 cop cars parked in a driveway off 6th Ave just behind the theater.

Anyway, I'm glad everyone got a laugh out of it.

13. Denver was where "Young Republicans" carbombed Alan Berg
Jesus Christ. think about it. Berg came up BEFORE Limbaugh. Berg (and Morton Downey Jr.) actually initiated this genre of confrontational radio.

Wow. Think about that. Liberals got mugged because the one man who was showing the way to a new genre (not that I partiularly like this genre and would rather it didn't exist) of Talk radio.

And Flush Pigboy Oxycintin XVI stepped right in.

OK. I'm not saying I BELIEVE this. It is too :tinfoilhat: for me.

14. What color shirts were they wearing?
Brown, or were the Young Republicans operating incognito?
