Any firsthand sightings of Freepers/Bushies/Fundies at F 9/11?
I've read a few posts about DUers who have witnessed the reactions of freeps/bushies/fundies before, during, and after seeing F 9/11. I want to hear your stories! Did you see any negative reactions? Any movie-aisle conversions? Give some juicy dialogue, too, if you can.

Mrs. Cat and I are going tomorrow evening; I'll report back with any good stories.

Okay, let's hear 'em!

1. I saw a guy in a Bush/Cheney tee shirt in the lobby with a camcorder...
he was taking a video of the ATM machine.

Later, I turned him into the manager who was VERY interested....

5. My guess was that he was trying to adust the thing to not washout...
while filming a screen in the dark. (The ATM was lit and was in a darkened corner of the lobby).

2. None
All thunderous applause in Carmel, INDIANA - the second wealthiest area of the NATION per capita!! I hope that's a sign! The theater was packed too. I took two of my friends who normally might not even vote. I've got one convinced Bush is an asshole and the other, for the first time in his life, might think politically different than his parents! WHOO!! All good news here.

21. Dude, any positive report from Indiana is a plus.
Haven't the polls for Novemember's elections already closed? And we can project the winner as . . .

6. Saw it today and
some old guy sitting next to me said, before the movie began, "I heard this is a propaganda film."

"No," said I, "It's a documentary."

"Well, I heard it's propaganda. That's what a lot of people say."

"What people?"

"You know, people. I voted for Bush in 2000, but I don't think I'm going to vote for him this year."

"Good," I replied, hoping the film we were about to see would get his blood pumping. No way. The old jerk slept through most of it. Sigh.

He did stir a few times when the audience laughed or applauded, but in any event, I hope he stays awake on election day to go out and vote for Kerry.

7. Not firsthand
I missed it because I was waiting for friends to show up outside the theater, but my friends already inside the theater (saving seats) saw it.

There was some a couple speakers, including one former CIA employee, before the movie started.

Idiot Bushbot stands up and yells, "This movie is BULLSHIT!" (Althought I doubt he had actually SEEN it yet. :eyes:

Apparently it got pretty heated in there. Can't believe I missed it!

While I was outside I did hear a young girl who was with a few other friends coming out of the previous showing remark, "I think I'm moving to Canada." I started laughing.

And, in the bathroom after the show, I heard a high school girl say into a cell phone that, "I, like, learned a LOT of new stuff."

Hey, it's a start! :-)

8. 'I, like, learned a lot of new stuff.' Strong words indeed! Look out Bush
I think the audience F911 will most change is young people. Many of them
will go see it just cause its the cool movie to see right now, but they will
come out of it having learned a lot of new stuff that will aply to them
specifically because of their draftability.

I just hope that translates into voting.

10. My son bought pretzel to ward Freepers off
My son loved the idea of throwing pretzels at any Freepers protesting the movie. We bought a giant one at the concession stand and carried into the show He ended up eating the pretzel and not using it against any Freeper.

11. Too funny!
I love it.

My teenage daughter turned to me as the previews started and said, "Isn't it cool to know that probably everybody here is liberal?" It's just nice to know you're among friends.

16. Yeah, one.
We talked to him in the theater lobby after it was over. He was already in a conversation with a couple of people so I don't know how it got started. I heard him say that he is a Republican but doesn't like Bush and wish he had an alternative because he couldn't vote for Kerry either. He said he wishes he could vote for Bush 1, Reagan or even Nixon again. Says a lot of Republicans he talks to are embarrassed by Bush*. I wonder. On second thought, how could they NOT be?

19. but
Really, I think it just proves that some Republicans put Bush* in a class by himself. Nothing glowing about Nixon or Reagan as much as it is a slam against Bush. The guy we talked to wasn't an asshole at all, actually a very nice guy. I know that a lot of people think if "they" don't agree with "us" then they are assholes. Life is too short for that. I try to keep the personal and political separate for my OWN sanity.

20. Sorry to disagree, but,
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 10:22 PM by Cyrano
any human entity living on this planet that could still consider casting a vote for Richard Nixon is either beyond redemption, or is badly in need of psychiatric help.

The guy you were talking to was "A nice guy?" So was Ted Bundy. It's not a matter of political disagreement. It's a matter of judgment. And since the man you were talking to still thinks that Nixon and Reagan are viable alternatives to Bush, please, please, don't consider him a rational, logical, thinking person.

And in today's environment, it's virtually impossible to separate the personal from the political. Holding onto your sanity doesn't mean ceding the benefit of the doubt to those who are too ignorant or stupid to realize the goals of the thugs who are currently in power. Nor does it mean granting them immunity from stupidity because they think their "heroes" of the past are slightly better than the current criminals who are holding the reins of power.

22. one (in new orleans) was applauding the bombing footage
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 10:23 PM by enki23
actually, he was also applauding whenever bush came on the screen. he was also clapping and cheering for the iraqi explosions, apparently unaware his behavior would make him look the ass in any crowd less rightwing than a klan meeting.

someone told him he was sick. he was silent for the rest of the film.

23. What's telling about that is that no one assaulted him.
Imagine the reverse situation. A liberal doing that at a wing-nut film. He wouldn't have made it to the parking lot alive.

If anything defines the difference between "them" and "us" this is it.

Everyone I saw them approach had the good strategic sense to refuse, though.

27. Another example of the difference between dems and repugs.
Those approached just walked away. Imagine a dem trying to get signatures at a repug event. The autopsy would take a month to figure out the cause of death of him/her.

Keep the faith. We really do possess the moral high ground for whatever it's worth these day.
