Green Party rejects Nader as nominee
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Green Party on Saturday refused to back Ralph Nader in his independent run for the White House, a move that could reduce his chances of being a factor in this year's election.

Delegates to the half-million-member party's presidential convention voted to nominate party activist David Cobb, a California lawyer who led the delegate count going into the meeting.

On the second round of voting, Cobb captured 408 delegates, more than the 385 needed to gain the nomination.

3. Greens are smart. And serious about building their party.
Kudos to them for making the right decision. Let's make sure that we get more Greens elected to local and regional office.

5. The Greens made a smart move
I would never have voted Green if they had endorsed Nader.

Now if there is an election where the decision is between a Dem and a green, I will look at both candidates objectively.

I won't vote green if it means the Repub will win, though.

7. This is what I do.
In regional contests, I look at Greens, Dems, and Repubs independently. If the Greens can win some Congressional races, some local city council seats, we will truly see progessive ideals back in the forefront and protect ourselves from another complete hijacking of Democracy by neocons.

13. That's correct...
The stench of another Nader Spoiler campaign would PERMANENTLY keep the party from effecting the necessary "grassroots up" growth it needs.

Kudos Greens.

Last night at f911 a guy was trying to get signatures to put Nader on the CA ballot. Nobody would sign! He seemed really frustrated :)

9. Voted for Cobb
I am here at the convention and voted for Cobb both rounds. The Nader people turned off a lot of the delegates because of their trash talking and their "Moonie" like insistence on getting literature in your hands.

20. About 22 States, I think
that's what CBS Evening News reported this evening.

It keeps Ralph off the ballot and keeps him from access to those funds the Greens get.

for something other than President. Maybe I'll swing more Green this year and see how much I can push that party.

18. The smartest thing they've done in their history...
This establishes them as a fair minded party capable of thinking about the larger national effect they have and their goals for the future of this country. They already know that with Bush in office their main issues are either ignored or destroyed, at least with Kerry they'll have their voices heard in the great debate.

29. I never understood...
why do new parties (Greens, Reform, etc) always try for the Presidency? I would soooooooooooo vote for a green as state representive or senator in the state house - for City Council, even Mayor. Why not start small, build your base and show that you can govern effectively and then get someone elected in congress, etc.?

I always wondered.

30. We do run from the grassroots level too
but stupid election laws require us to run at higher levels to keep our parties alive.

Here is a list of the positions we have run for:

31. Good! It's nice to have a second choice.
I always thought that Nader was too much of an opportunist. If Kerry strains my nose holding ability even more than it already is, Cobb will get my vote.

33. Nader Is Toast
This added to his alliances with reactionary petition gathering organizations in Arizona and Oregon will send Nader spinning into an ignominious political retirement.

Now let's beat Bush.

38. Media bias revealed (again)...
All of the headlines I've seen this morning are along the lines of "Green Party rejects Nader Nomination", not, on the other hand, "Green Party nominates Cobb." What does that tell you?

I'm a registered Dem but I vote Green at the local level when I can (I vote for Dems on the Working Families line, a local progressive party here in NY). Kudos to the Greens and best of luck in the future.
