Angry White House pulls RTE interview
ADVERTISEMENT

THE White House has lodged a complaint with the Irish Embassy in Washington over RTE journalist Carole Coleman's interview with US President George Bush.

And it is believed the President's staff have now withdrawn from an exclusive interview which was to have been given to RTE this morning by First Lady Laura Bush.

It is understood that both RTE and the Department of Foreign Affairs were aware of the exclusive arrangement, scheduled for 11am today. However, when RTE put Ms Coleman's name forward as interviewer, they were told Mrs Bush would no longer be available.

The Irish Independent learned last night that the White House told Ms Coleman that she interrupted the president unnecessarily and was disrespectful.

She also received a call from the White House in which she was admonished for her tone.

And it emerged last night that presidential staff suggested to Ms Coleman as she went into the interview that she ask him a question on the outfit that Taoiseach Bertie Ahern wore to the G8 summit.

I give more respect to the bowel movement, because I got something out of it...internalized it...Bush is a disease which needs to be avoided.

5. As I Recall
The questions were submitted 3 days beforehand and he got irritated when she tried to get past his "talking points."

I suppose Dimbo is pissed because he can't control the European reporters like he can in the US.

"...presidential staff suggested to Ms Coleman as she went into the interview that she ask him a question on the outfit that Taoiseach Bertie Ahern wore to the G8 summit."

It's been keeping me up at night, worrying about wardrobe.

Keep it up, Shrub. You're giving Michael Moore all kinds of new ammo for a new documentary.

7. Bush is a pussy
He obviously cannot handle questions that any politician should expect. And we are to believe that he can responsibly run the country? He causes a huge scene over a responsible journalist doing their job, which is a rare sight in this country now that the media is controlled by the elite.

20. Meritocracy
Sorry, but in the USA rich means you're elite and merit automatic respect (example, Mafia Don).

10. They are using the pressure on foreign journalists that worked
on ours here. If anyone is interested in a very good read try the new book "Bush on the Couch". It explains a lot.

12. pathetic. Bush really thinks he's a mideval King.
And the people around him who go along with this and file the complaint are perhaps creepier.

13. "...a call from the White House..."
"...in which she was admonished for her tone."??? Since when is it the White House's place to make a personal call to admonish a jounalist? It reeks of intimidation.

17. I wonder who on the WH staff makes those calls?
What staffer has the job of "admonishing" reporters? Boy, that would look great on a resume come November...

"How does this hatchet protocol work exactly and how is this hatchet position funded?" Or whatever.

14. Might I assume...
this article came from the Irish Independant? A link would be nice, even though they seem to be yet another that requires registration.

Anyway, I can't help but wonder if Sam Donaldson would be chasing the shrub around like he chased Reagan.

"MR. PRESIDENT!!! MR. PRESIDENT!!!"

We just don't sambag them like we used to.

Whether the President-like-object wants to admit it or not, it is the job of the press to dog these lying bastards until they beat the truth out of them.

15. She's a National Hero!
An admonishment by the Bush White House is a badge of honor in Ireland.

I am only sorry that the Republic of Ireland will suffer the loss of the wit and wisdom of Laura "Pickles" Bush. I am sure they are all outraged that one bad apple had to go and spoil it all for them.

18. What utter, petty bullshit
This adminsitration is, in every which way, the Toddler Administration. I've never seen so many childish, boorish, self-centered (just like a toddler) assholes in an administration.
