taxidriver...and last December around Christmas when I was listening to his show, I e-mailed him this on-line documentary which is lengthy, but extremely acurate and interesting.
It's descibed in the introduction as "Nearly 700 pages detailing the subversion of democracy leading to the creation of a Fascist state..." http://www.spiritone.com/~gdy52150/noon.html..."The Nazi Hydra in America"

2. Oh sh*t!
I thought we were on our way to fascism ... but it turns out we're already there! :scared:

3. It's been on it's way
for some time. Einstein as well as Eisenhower warned of the dangers of the military complex and militarism as a 'diplomatic' weapon. Certainly overt nationalism has been pushed as a uniting tool. Media control. Control of educational systems(testing) and curriculum. Suppression of unionism and unfettered corporate capitalism (this started in the 70s and esculated during the Reagan era). Many other indications of fascism; expressed fear and suspician of other countries, disavowing international rules of engagement. In the end one can hope that there will be a return to the values that have made this country an unusual success in many areas.

5. No, not yet.
Well on the way, though.

4. Wonder why he did not include Japan
under the militarist regime during the Showa emperor's reign (Hirohito) as a case in his research?
Admittedly, it is difficult to say whether what took place there was fascism, but it is no easier than to investigate Peronism or Chile under Pinochet.
I find these characteristics to be helpful but I would add the revitalization of premodern mythologies or symbols as an element of classic fascism as well. Though pagan signs are typical Christian ones would qualify as well.
