If you were running a Congressional Campaign....
Isn't this the first place you'd hit? Seriously, what better place in the world to generate excitement and interest than amongst the base of your support? I mean, even if you're not targeting people within your own district, if you generate excitement, it spreads rapidly. Hell, you could even generate some donations by using these boards.

1. That's what we did
My husband is an ex-candidate, and I was a DUer for awhile before that, but he came on board. Got quite a few donations and bounced ideas off of the gallery.
Charlie Crystle (PA Senate) did the same thing before dropping out.

I know current candidates Jef Hall (WI-6) registered here recently, and Jeff Seemann (OH-16) is a former member.

2. DU would be a part of the campaign, yes.
I can't imagine NOT using the internet as a campaign tool! I'll grant you, it isn't the entire campaign, but yeah--DU would be a part of it.

A lot of people fail to understand the role the internet is playing in the grassroots scene these days. I never cease to be amazed at the amount of information and organizing that goes on in on line forums and message boards, and I can't imagine how anyone could have missed the success that Dean had with his internet fund raising and organizing efforts.

I had a discussion with a couple Congressional and Senate campaign managers about this a while ago, in fact. I urged them to get signed in to DU and to get started. I know at least two DID take me seriously, because I've seen them here since then. I look for several campaigns to be highly visible here either in the general forums or even in the individual state forums as it gets closer to the election.

To me, it is a "no-brainer" really. You have here at DU (and other boards), a group of people who are interested in the political scene--so much so that they participate in a message board about politics--and they are mostly active in politics or organizing. THAT is just ideal for any campaign!
