Cmon folks get off your collecives asses. Go see the movie of the year. Its only made 8 million so far this weekend. Although it will be the number one movie it should be doing much better. There are no blockbusters competing with F911 I was expecting at least 20 mil. We just have to beat the Passion

1. uh, it is selling out across the country...
it only has 800+ screens and beat films with nearly 3000 screens.

there are only so many seats and they are being filled.

it set single-day records in NYC already.

3. Who's setting this up as a contest between F911 and The Passion?
I think that's a big mistake.

4. Umm. sell out crowds everywhere
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 09:34 AM by supernova
not just Friday, but every single day this weekend. It has a higher attendance rate per showing per screen than every other movie.

Besides, we want F911 in theatres as long as possible. We don't want a big blowout all in one or even two weekends. I want this thing around when the conventions come up.

5. 8 Million in about 1/4 the number of theaters of "the Passion"
"The Passion" opened in 3,400+ theaters, F9/11 opened in 868 theaters.

6. The Passion and Fahrenheit 911 ARE NOT COMPARABLE.
Fahrenheit is a documentary that tries to bring facts (and Moore's views, which I agree with completely) to the forefront. It is polarizing and has to deal with VERY NEGATIVE PROPAGANDA FROM ALL THE MAINSTREAM AND RW MEDIA. Bush*'s staff has even been forbidden to watch it.
The Passion is religious "violence pornography" that is not polarizing, not a documentary, and attracted many Christians besides the fundamentalists.

8. Right. The GOP wants to make it a contest between the two
to pit Jesus and the Chimperor on one side against Moore and the Evil Godless Libruls on the other.

7. It made 8 million on Friday!
Did you pass math? That's huge for 860 theaters! In actual box office money per theater it beat Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban which was #1 at the box office opening weekend. It blew the Passion of the Christ away in a per theater comparison (F911 made over $1000 more per theater than Passion). F911 is only in 867 theaters. Movies like HP3 opened in over 3000 theaters, impossible to compare raw numbers. Only way to compare is a per theater comparison. In New York, F911 broke all one day totals. Read the story here: http://movieweb.com/news/news.php?id=4296

Here's a snip:
Fahrenheit 9/11: Fahrenheit 9/11 has achieved record-breaking single day grosses at both Manhattan's Loew's Village 7 theater and Manhattan's Lincoln Plaza theater, the two theaters at which it opened today, it was announced by Tom Ortenberg, President of Lions Gate Films Releasing, and Jonathan Sehring, President of IFC Entertainment.

The film has currently grossed $49,000 at the Loew's Village 7, which already beats the theater's previous all-time single day record, which was "Men in Black" on July 4, 1997, at $43,435. The film has also set an all-time single day record of over $30,000 at the Lincoln Plaza, besting the old mark of $24,013 set by "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" on Dec. 8, 2000.

Looks like it is doing incredible to me!

10. I do believe that
$8M is still an estimate, and the actual numbers will come out on Monday.

Also, take note of all the reports of theaters adding more screens as that movie sells out over and over, everywhere in the country.

11. It made 8 mil on Friday night. In the movie business, Fri is kids night.
Sat is adults night.

8 million on a Fri night for an adult movie is phenomenal.

15. The shows are selling out here
in Raleigh Durham NC. What more do you want? It's only restricted by the lack of screens nationwide.

16. What everybody else said.
:-)

The film needs to be in more theatres and if the theatres see the scores of people in lines, it may just happen.

That should be an indication as to the challenge we are up against. Considering, I'd say it's been a smashing success!
