Encounter with a freeper-type at the grocery this afternoon...
I'm waiting in the checkout line (It's a WalMart...please don't flame me, it's the only grocery store within 25 miles and I hate them as much as anybody does but I didn't feel like driving 50+ miles for milk and eggs)...anyway, they had Big Dog's books for sale in a rack right in the checkout line...there were only 2 left. Some old phart (I'm an old phart too) was standing next to me reading the blurbs on the dust cover while looked at it on the other remaining copy. I put it down and said, it's a damn shame we can't have someone of Bill's caliber in charge now instead of that dumb shit we have in the White House. He said "I disagree." That's it, 2 words...so I said "So you like the incompetent lying bastard Bush" He said "He's a good Christian man and he's evening up the score for Sept. 11"

I said "Are you one of those badly informed people who watch Fox TV and think Iraq had anything to do with Sept. 11?"

He stared blankly at me and never spoke another word for several minutes while we waited...

Fuckin' ignorant fundy sumbitches...:grr: :grr: :grr:

11. Fight the power, baby.
Al Franken played an interview with Clinton last Friday on www.AirAmericaRadio.com it was really good.

This review of 'My Life' by Larry McMurtry is nice. It sounds like a really good book.

Confessions of a Policy Wonk

William Jefferson Clinton's "My Life" is, by a generous measure, the richest American presidential autobiography - no other book tells us as vividly or fully what it is like to be president of the United States for eight years. Clinton had the good sense to couple great smarts with a solid education; he arrived in Washington in 1964 and has been the nation's - or perhaps the world's - No. 1 politics junkie ever since. And he can write - as Reagan, Ford, Nixon and Lyndon B. Johnson, to go no farther back, could not.

In recent days the memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant have been raised as a stick to beat Clinton with, and why? Snobbery is why. Some people don't want slick Bill Clinton to have written a book that might be as good as dear, dying General Grant's. In their anxiety lest this somehow happen they have not accurately considered either book.

Grant's is about being a general, in what Lincoln called a big war. Clinton's is about being a president at the end of the 20th century. Grant's is an Iliad, with the gracious Robert E. Lee as Hector and Grant himself the murderous Achilles. Clinton's is a galloping, reckless, political picaresque, a sort of pilgrim's progress, lowercase. There are plenty of stout sticks to beat Clinton with, but Grant's memoirs is not one of them.

Bill Clinton spent most of his childhood in the small town of Hope, Ark., which, culturally, is on the western edge of the South or the eastern edge of the Midwest, depending on which way one happened to be looking. His garrulity, which in the book manifests itself as too unremitting a focus on the minutiae of governance, maybe comes from the South, while his loneliness, his slight out-of-placeness, his seeming inability to get himself to really solid ground, comes from the Midwest, where he would have grown up had his father not rolled a car off the road and drowned in a drainage ditch. He died three months before Bill was born.

16. Wow, way to make the left look like a bunch of apologists.
The guy inferred Iraq "did" 911. Should we just let that shit fly?

SOMEBODY'S got to tell the truth once in awhile.

Worrying about looking like assholes has REALLY worked so far!

Ask those fuck senators that didn't want to look like assholes when Bush was running roughshod over them!

23. Uh, that is so irrelevant
The guy was just standing in the checkout line, and he just spews stuff like "incompetant lying bastard bush." What good did he do? He just made the guy more pissed off at the left than he probably was. He didn't change any minds. He could have at least been civil, and maybe he could have at least made the guy think, but he didn't. He called the guy and ignorant bastard--what good did that do?

that you didn't change his mind any by calling him an ignorant bastard. If you tried to be a little more civil maybe you could have actually made him think, instead of making yourself look like the aggressor.

...he said "Or are you one of the ignorant bastards that think Iraq had anything to do with 911?" Unless the guy actually thinks the Iraq War is "christ-like revenge" for 911, he's not an ignorant bastard. If he does believe that, then yes, he's an ignorant bastard.

They had us on the defensive for four years, the bastards.

I say SHAKE 'EM UP!

Besides, there is no reason to let people think the war in Iraq is payback for 911.

That kind of shit needs to stop.

NOW!

48. It will happen WAY faster than you want, I can promise! :-)
I live in a very small community containing probably 83.2% rightwing nutballs (Wagoner, OK on the shore of Ft. Gibson lake and I love the general ambiance if not the politics)...

And I get along quite well with just about everyone - even though we have serious disagreements about Chimpy and the Big Dog. I don't disrespect somebody for their (grammar police alert) convictions even if they're wrong and give the Devil his due, many of the rightwing people I know have pretty much accorded me the same consideration. And so we co-exist fairly peacefully. But everybody around here knows not to screw with me and my SO. We're -very well- armed and excellent shots.
