This is not good. . .American Marine captured and held in Iraq
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 05:40 PM by wndycty
This was just reported on ABC NEWS and I found a link on MSNBC. For those of you who like me have someone in Iraq know how much this contributes to sleepless nights. . .my thoughts are with this soldier and his family. Shit!

Arab TV shows tape of purported U.S. hostage
Group threatens to kill American MarineThe Associated Press

Updated: 5:32 p.m. ET June 27, 2004

BAGHDAD, Iraq - An Arab satellite TV network broadcast a videotape Sunday showing a blindfolded man in military fatigues and said he was a U.S. Marine taken hostage in Iraq.

There was no immediate comment from the U.S. military, but the video showed a card identifying the man by a Pakistani name and as an “active duty” Marine. The man had a trimmed moustache and his eyes were covered with a white blindfold.

1. I know what you mean.
I don't know how bad this whole situation will get, but I've got a really bad feeling about it.

3. The American Military can thank
Shrub and Co for this; if they kill that poor Marine, I wouldn't want to be Shrub for all the oil in Iraq!

4. Of course, the country's already forgotten about Pfc. Keith Matthew Maupin.
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 05:43 PM by VolcanoJen
Known to his Cincinnati family as "Matt," he was captured on April 16th, along with Sgt. Elmer Krause (who was found dead days later) and contractor Thomas Hamill (who escaped captivity).

Not a word about him since... but I think about him almost every day.

He remains the only soldier with "captured" status in Iraq, but since nobody's threatening to behead him, the media has forgotten about him altogether.

Good luck, Matt... and godspeed you home.

16. I remember... and have been looking for media updates...
Even if nothing new is known, you'd think they would mention that fact every once in a while wouldn't you?

I hope he is ok....

6. Didn't you hear?
We won. Its over. We crushed the mean brown people and we were victorious in doing so. Now we are safer and we no longer have to fear, but those uppity arabs are revolting cause they hate our freedom and Jesus. So now they are beheading our God fearing white American soldiers. Damn libruls

11. I think the "hostage" label is appropriate...
because they are making demands for his safe return. If they had simply kept him as a prisoner, then he would certainly be a POW.

8. Bush now has ZERO room to talk!!!!

They can attach his balls to jumper cable and make him stand on his head naked. They can sick dogs on him. Bush will have ZERO room to criticize. They can make him jack off to video cameras or simulate oral sex. They can push broomsticks up his ass. They can hold him in a small cage. They can threaten him with death every hour if he doesn't "talk". They can kick him on the ground and bludgeon him with a flashlight. They can dunk him into cold water tanks.

Do on to your prisoners as you would have US prisoners treated!!!!!

9. In Nam
We Marines feared only 1 thing: being captured. This is what kept us awake all god damn night when on ambush duty. My USMC heart goes out to this man.

10. after looking at the pic
I see:

1. awfully long hair for a marine
2. awfully long mustache
3. no rank or insignia on collar

I dunno, it's not just American servicemen that wear those uniforms, I am not sure that it is a marine personally. Doesn't make his capture any less horrific, just not quite sold based on the photo that it is a marine yet.

13. I thought so too
when first announced they stated a Pakistani wearing a Marine uniform but could not confirm he was a Marine. Then they statd he worked for a contractor.:eyes:
