Freepers will keep Earnhardt in line
along with those corporate sponsors.

After what happened today in California, I would imagine the NASCAR drivers will be given a little re-education. Many of the corporate sponsors are part-owners of George W. Bush, so don't expect any more Dale Earnhardt Jr shenanigans (FreeperSpeak).

1. Who cares the cat's outta the bag
If the media won't spread around that one of their own spokesmodels (or at least a guy who everyone thought would surely be one of their mouthpieces) has endorsed Moore's film then WE WILL

The freepers went nutso over this.

5. Fox reported
that Dale Earnhardt Jr. told his entire crew to go see Fahrenheit 9/11, and that everybody of any political persuasion should see it.

It set off a freepstorm, and in fact, the thread got yanked.

7. Earnhardt Jr. a member of redneck terrorist group al-Cooter
Some of the comments at Atrios are funny.

- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a member of underground redneck terrorist group al-Cooter.

- My favorite freeper comment was that they will ruin his career like they did with the Dixie Chicks.

- You just want to pat their little pointy heads before you remember what they're about, at which point you really should smash their teeth out with a pipe...Or tooth, as it may be!

- First I had to buy a bunch of Dixie Chick CDs. Now I have to watch NASCAR?

- That giant sucking sound you hear?

That's the NASCAR dad vote being sucked out of the republican party!

- F911- another brilliant business move by Mickey Eisner. That's why they pay him the big bucks.

I always liked him, but I never had a favorite. It's him now.

11. He will be back in the fold later this week
with the repukes. However, we now know many of these drivers sometimes make a little slip. They are constantly told what to say by the marketing people. Little E is somewhat of a free spirit, as are some of the other drivers. With Fox, NBC, and all the corporate sponsors telling them what to do, I'm surprised even this came out. It's pro sports, but some of the drivers and many of the fans are waking up. Give 'em time.

10. I Don't See How
Variety is now predicting $100 Million in ticket sales in the US alone.

How can the Right-Wing possibly stem the tide from a documentary of Bush and essentially by Bush from his own mouth and actions?

12. I've never been a fan of NASCAR
Didn't find it very exciting.

However, I must say I'm impressed with Earnhardt for actually recommending people to see this, considering so much of NASCAR seems dominated by freeper types.

13. One of two things will probably happen...
First, I would like to applaud Dale, Jr. for having the courage to speak out, especially knowing what the repurcussions would be. That had to be hard and I have a new found respect for him after this.

But, the freeper NASCAR dads will either do one of two things about this:

1. Sweep it under the carpet as quickly as possible. After all, he's a "good ole boy" and they don't say things like that (or "like 'at"...use a redneck accent). ...or...

2. Give him complete hell...sponsors would jump ship, he'd be reprimanded out the wazoo, forced to apologize, etc. If this happens, I hope he'll stand firm and refuse to apologize. After all, expressing freedom of speech is nothing to apologize for.

Since not much has been made of this so far in the press, I'd tend to think they are going with option #1. I did find some other boards discussing it and couldn't believe what those idiots had to say. Things like "if he doesn't agree with us (the freepers), then he's not American". How insane is that!!!??? If what he said changes just one mind, then it is for the good. Getting at least one redneck to actually open their mind is a step in the right direction. I'm sure he's bombarded with e-mails and letters today. We should send him our messages of support.

16. With the kind of record Junior has, why would he have to toe the line
First, if sponsers leave Earnhardt Jr, I'm sure more will line up to take their place. Second, with the career that Junior has had I highly doubt he's going to back down from what he said.

Hats off to #8, heck I'll cheer him on too!!!

20. If the RW establishment tries to muzzle him it could backfire on them
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 09:33 AM by demo@midlife
bigtime - kinda like E's racecar?

The more Bushco tries to stop this, the more attention it gets and exposes them for trying to control the public.

They hate our freedoms, y'know.

(Edited for better wording)

23. Next Saturday night
There will be a race at Daytona.

It's the holiday weekend.
The stands in Daytona will be PACKED with over 130,000 people.
The TV ratings are typically very high as this is a BIG race on NASCAR's schedule.

If during the race Dale Jr should happen to take the lead or even WIN the race, at least 110,000 or those 130,000 in attendance will go NUTS.

Dale Sr was a hero to many NASCAR fans, myself included.
His Son has now taken the lead as NASCAR's most popular and enduring figure.

If NASCAR came down on him somehow (which they won't) or if Budweiser was to suddenly pull their sponsorship (which they won't) Dale Jr could drive around the track in a black car with a "BUSH LIED AND YOUR REDNECK CHILDREN DIED" paint scheme and still get a standing ovation.

You don't tug on Superman's cape and right now Dale Jr is the sports #1 figure and #1 icon.

So with that being said, I hope the corporate sponsors do something stupid like try to sanction him or shut him up.

The backlash would be unbelievable!

24. I have to disagree with you there...
Dale Jr. is not reallt the sports #1 icon right now. He has alot of recognition because of his dad, and he's definitely up there, was leading in points for a while. But guys like Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Khane are getting alot of attention right now....

Heyo
