"CANBERRA: A one-in-a-million shot fired by an Iraqi insurgent struck a RAAF Hercules transport aircraft flying out of Baghdad airport, killing a United States civilian passenger.
Commander of Australian forces in the Middle East, Brigadier Peter Hutchinson, said insurgents had fired on RAAF aircraft before but this was the first time they had actually hit one.
"A single bullet penetrated the Hercules and unfortunately, in a one-in-a-million chance, it actually hit the American passenger inside," he told ABC radio."
