Saw a really cool thing yesterday ~ The PEACE BOAT
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 11:24 AM by Bandit
Saw the coolest thing yesterday. A huge ship all white with huge lettering on it's side saying PEACE BOAT This picture doesn't show the lettering. It is so big it covers two thirds of the ship. It was on Port side and this view is the Starbord side but one would think it would be on both sides. Maybe not but it is definitely on Port side and really cool thing to see.

Every year, Peace Boat organizes several educational peace voyages onboard a large passenger ship. When the ship is in port, we co-operate with local groups on the organization of exchange and study programmes. These programmes aim to promote international peace and friendship at a grassroots level. At the same time, educational and networking activities onboard bring together concerned individuals from around the world in the search for new approaches and solutions to contemporary global issues.
We are a dynamic team of full time and volunteer staff, based in Tokyo and with representatives in Africa, South-East Asia, Central America, South America and Europe. Our voyages are open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, nationality, religion or background.
Peace Boat was founded in 1983 by a group of young Japanese who, alarmed at the government's attempts to present an incomplete picture of Japan's imperialist aggression in Asia by censoring history textbooks, chartered a ship in order to travel to the regions in question and learn the truth directly from those involved.
Peace Boat works to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development and respect for the environment. Our philosophy is based on the idea that all these aspects are inter-related, and that any problem faced by any community is a global challenge, which must be tackled through co-operation between peoples, organisations and governments of the world.
