Watch for Iraq to completely disappear
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 12:21 PM by SoCalDem
After the first few days, touting the wonderfully successful "turnover", the media will be "encouraged" to come back home.. The soldiers will bug out to their "out of town" encampments..

Any "new" violence will be deemed as .."hey..we are not in charge, and it's none of our business"..

with few, if any reporters around, the whole "war" will be like Afghanistan..out of sight out of mind..

Soldiers will still get killed, but the media will be in "campaign mode" soon, and they will be busily propping the puppet, and will not be bothered by that "Iraqi" mess..

I wish it were not so, but it will be that way..

Bush is "cleaning house" before the campaign..

He has disposed of the energy stuff (for now)
He has disposed of the A Boo Giraffe stuff..
He has disposed of most of his troubles, and can now concentrate on trying to destroy Kerry..

People are so disconnected, that , with the help of the media, they will believe that the war is won and everything is great..

1. Not sure if it will go the way of Afghanistan. We need that oil
so I think we will keep our troops over there. And the bombings will go on.

2. I totally agree with you. That is why they wanted to wash their oily
hands from all that mess. Of course, their hands are still there, but they can deny it with impunity.
They trot Karzai... what a joke!

3. The western media is not coming home
That would cause them to miss a "scoop" when something blows up.
I don't think the non Fox media leans left or right, they lean toward sensationalism.

5. The US Military Will Still be Involved
I fully expect the "insurgency" to launch an all-out assault on the new government very quickly. Without the US military, the government will fall. This is not the end of US involvement.

11. Remember Vietnamization? The transfer of power in Iraq will be
just as successful.

12. That's Exactly What I Was Thinking
if the population is armed and overwhelmingly opposed to the new government, they will topple it. If Allawi wants to keep his job and his life, he needs to demonstrate independence from Washington, show he's on the side of the ordinary Iraqi, and open dialogue with nsurgent leaders NOW. I don't really expect that to happen.

6. After some thought...what if the media has to provide their own
security. or rely on Iraqi police for their safety ?
Still...I think the media pushed this war for the sole sake of good footage and ratings, so I trust they'll find a way.
Scott Peterson can only go so far in holding the attention of the masses.

7. If Kerry doesn't come out by taking a position on something...
its gonna be difficult. All of the major scandals have already been exposed. Now its time for the Democrats to stand for something.

8. Hope not, but it is a very viable possibility.
The media being what it is these days may feel a little left out of the "sovereignty turn-over" but I'm sure when asked, they will tow the line.

10. Makes sense to me...
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 12:51 PM by Flubadubya
Moreover, with the official "transfer" of sovreignty, and later with "so-called" elections, be prepared for the "New Iraqi Gubmint" to ask us to LEAVE... and guess what... we will! For months now the administration has sent their "pundit puppets" out on the circuit saying the following meme: "When the Iraqis have control of their government again, and if they ask us to leave, we will leave... we will have to."

Why do you suppose they have been saying this? They have set it up so that they can finally wash their hands of the commitment and then blame it on the Iraqi's because we must honor the request of a sovreign nation. Didn't work that way when Saddam was around, but then, it wasn't convenient like it is now either.

Just watch... this will happen! :grr:

14. That would be preferred....and if terror goes "quiet" then I would wonder
who really was behind the terror squads. My guess is this admin will always need terror to cloud our vision of their past lies and blunders.

19. I'm not sure
If the media/cons try to use the 'we're not in charge' line, I think it might backfire on them when US casualties continue. If we're 'not in charge', then why in the world do we still have our troops there?

This might really backfire with the veterans vote. It'll look like we left our military there to be sitting ducks with a government that doesn't have the popular support of the people - shades of Vietnam.

The media may not report on the chaos that will surely continue, but they have no choice but to report on casualties. I think this war is going to become even more unpopular now, because nothing is changing except the perception that we're 'not in charge' (which of course we know isn't true - the new government is entirely Vichy in nature). Americans don't like being 'not in charge' when our military is involved - witness American troops being under American officers in NATO. Perceptions are strange in this country, and I predict that this excuse, like all of their other witless moves, will come back to haunt them.

20. Added BONUS...today, the news is: only ONE USA soldier killed
since the NEW Iraqi Government took over...only ONE...

it resets the clock.....like after the bush* aircraft landing MISSION ACCOMPLISHED....reporters began the American Soldier DEATHS all over again....began the "since bush* declared victory, only 5 USA soldiers have been killed"....like the other didn't matter...

so now it has begun...today, only ONE American soldier KILLED, with no mention of the total number killed anymore....
