My take on Bush's famous "Fool me once" brain fart...
I hadn't thought about this particular gem in months until the end of F9/11, and I think I figured it out. He didn't forget how the saying ended, he just didn't think the thing through in his head before he started talking. When he got to the part where the saying says "Shame on me", he stopped cold. For a member of the Bush family to say anything even remotely self-deprecating, even as part of a famous anecdote, is a big no-no. Bushes are trained from an early age that they can do no wrong, so Bush brain slammed on the brakes instead of finishing the line. He tried to put his own spin on it, but he failed spectacularly, and once again gave his critics more ammo!

1. "Was there anything you'd do differently"?
Classic chimp placing asshole where mouth belongs.

2. correct, but no original -- bush dyslexicon, i believe
i think this observation is in the bush dyslexicon.

unfortunately, such subtle analysis is lost on the public. moreover, the masses see nothing wrong with a "strong leader's" inability to accept blame or shame.

3. Your take = something I read
It was an article on Bush's narcissism, can't remember where it was or who wrote it, but you can just see his he-man cowboy Brain, somewhere down in the reptilian complex area, instinctively rejecting the phrase "shame on me" and then the pre-frontal lobes stepping in with a line from The Who.

Thank you, Bush's Brain.
