7. Ben Cohen of Ben and Jerry's ice cream is a cast member
and he's cool - http://action.truemajority.org/register/

This is not an anti-moore film, though some may try to portray it as one. Moore says he loves his country - nothing contradictory here, is there? How about a double feature?

It's a pretty neat place and we are pretty neat people.

19. Everything is "neat".
Don't pull your heads out of your asses, there's nothing to see here.

America is the most hubris riddled, barbarism denying pile of self indulgent elite enablers in the history of the world and you think "we are pretty neat people".

I rest my case.

25. It's pretty neat we can have these types of intelligent debates,
don't you think? Maybe, there are only a couple of "pretty neat" Americans out here. What do you think? You and, maybe, one other guy? I'm sure you aren't riddled with hubris and I know you face every barbaric act committed in the name of God and Wal-Mart head-on. Don't you? You and that other guy? All the rest of us American bastards just suck.

11. Just what America needs..encouragement to continue their ignorance.
All is well..there aren't any problems anywhere. Just lazy people. Kind of relieves you of any guilt if you can make them out to be responsible for losing their jobs and homes.

20. I'm not bitching about the movie, it's the cynical timing and intent
of putting it out right now. Fire up the jingoism to combat the reality that we should be facing up to.

23. well if it makes over 20 million during its opening weekend....
...then I promise I'll see it. And I also promise to not debate the content of this movie unless I go and see the entire thing with my own two eyes.

I think the movie itself looks sweet. It's the fact that Disney will be using this film as a last minute attempt at thwarting the success of F911 that pisses me off.

13. I really don't need Disney to tell me what makes America great
I already know what makes America great. If I didn't know how great my country was, then I wouldn't fight so damn hard to make it the very best I know it should and could be.

The biggest mistake I constantly see is confusing blind trust in the government with patriotism. Another mistake is assuming that because a guy talks of God and tells a few jokes that he's an ethical and good person.

...more power to 'em.

Doesn't mean that people will actually see it.

I had no idea what the film is about, so I did a little investigating, lest I get the wrong idea:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381006/

Date: 25 June 2004
Summary: inspirational and moving

In step with today's documentary fad, Disney presents an inspirational, slightly goofy documentary featuring real-life story slices from Americana – people like Appalachian mountain folk and famous musician wannabes. For example, you'll meet a blind mountain-climber, an Indian elder and a rug weaver. After being fired from cooking-related jobs, Ben Cohen realized he mainly liked to eat, and developed Ben & Jerry's fabulous ice cream. Heart and Soul spotlights everyone from unique mothers, bike messengers, artists and marathon runners (one of whom has Cerebral Palsy) to more eccentric cliff-dancers and outright lunatic fringe. One guy specialized in blowing up junk. This collection of creative dreamers who love life plucks on the heartstrings without being schmaltzy. Definitely worth a look.

It doesn't sount freeperish to me at all. A bit soft and fluffy, as only Disney can do it, but just plain ol' slice of life Americana to me. Not a bad thing at all. I may catch it on cable some day.

As for RW flicks, there's two flicks on the horizon that are of note. One is "Michael Moore Hates America" and the other is "Michael And Me", both of which prove that if you can't attack the message, go after the messenger. Coming soon to Blockbuster's bargain bin, if at all.

27. Looks like something they'd show AT Disney World.
The only problem I have with it is the premise that these people are great because they reside in this country. They are great because people are great - all around the goddamn world. When will that sink in with some people?

John Mellencamp has a song in it and he hates Bush and the war, so it can't be all bad.

33. My thoughts...
More BULLSHIT from the "Heartland"... just like their idiotic votes.

I'm sure there are great and wonderful tales to tell of people in Iraq and Afghanistan -

American's would be better off seeing a movie titled "Iraqs Heart and Soul" instead of patting themselves on the back for being fortunate enough to be born into a country with ranglers, olympic boxers and blind mountain climbers.

I can't watch some tripe called America Heart and Soul while the so called leader of those hearts and souls is on a mass killing spree with the support of 40 something percent of American's.

In my lifetime, I have never been more ashamed of my country.

34. Personally, I think it's the wrong time for this sort of thing.
We're currently embroiled in the biggest foreign policy disaster in our nation's history, and the middle class is quickly being vaporized.

This sort of fuzzy nationalism is what we don't need right now. We need more honest introspection if we're going to get this train back on track. We don't have much to be proud of at the moment, in my humble opinion.
