Anti Michael Moore Film Festival on 9-11-04
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 10:56 PM by BattyDem
Sorry if this is a dupe. I did a search, but didn't find anything. :)

U.S. conservatives plan 9-11 film backlash

Just as his "Fahrenheit 9/11" opens nationwide, several filmmakers are readying documentaries aimed at debunking Michael Moore, and a new film festival is being planned that will feature such works.

Scheduled September 9-11 in Dallas, the American Film Renaissance, as the festival will be known, has just been announced by co-founder Jim Hubbard, who said it is bankrolled primarily by some "big-time conservative donors."

If they want to have an anti-MM film festival, fine. I think it's pathetic and desperate, but fine. But to hold it on 9/11 is despicable! Let them have their childish, hissy fit on some other day! :grr:

15. Well their lack of interst caused it
They can have it.

If they want to commorate Americans Dying by supporting the Dork that ignored the briefings more power to them.

It is bizzare of them to celebrate the deaths of thousands with a film festival.

I say give them their 9/11 Patriotism-Fest this year, as it will be the last 9/11 Republicans are in power for a long, long time to come.

6. Great! Bring it On! And no better place to have it that repug-butthole...
...kissing Dallas. Dear ostentatious Dallas.

I would like to say we'd organize boycotts, we'll threaten theatre owners, we'll harass patrons... but what the fuck for?

In your heart, you know bush is a lying sack of shit. In your heart you know that you are a war criminal enabler. In your christian heart you know your are probably going to hell.

10. Let 'em have their party
With luck, they may actually pull in 50-100 people.

I'd actually like to see the two anti-Moore flicks. I think they'd be hilarious. But not in the way they intend.

That Muslim terrorist flick sounds like Oscar material. :hurts:

Boycott? HELL NO! This should be great!

And for once, a winger says something I agree with:

Hubbard and wife, Ellen, both attorneys, co-founded the festival in the spirit of competition. Boycott efforts, like the one from the group MoveAmericaForward.org that is asking exhibitors not to show Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," "are for the weak," Hubbard said.

"We want everyone to see Michael Moore's film," he said. "We also want everyone to see 'Michael Moore Hates America.' Conservatives complain about institutional bias in Hollywood. They need to stop whining and get out there and produce."

Damn straight!

Although I agree that holding it on 9/11 smacks of crassness and bad taste.

13. I'm wondering about that fabulous flick about an evil Muslim terrorist
myself. I was amused by the quote in the article re: Hollywood refusing scripts about terrorists and bad Muslims. I listened to a talk by Jack Shaheen recently -- he wrote "Reel Bad Arabs" -- and the conclusions were very different. I can't think of many (any?) examples of movies with images of Arabs or Muslims as ordinary people. Not even positive images, just... *ordinary* images.

16. "Renaissance"???
The mentality they're catering to is the same that tried to PREVENT the Renaissance. At least I finally have a legitimate excuse to type the overly abused word "ironic".

17. Hmmm

I'm sure it will be as factual as that Showtime movie on how "manly" and in control Bushboy was on 9/11. I tried watching that movie three times and feel asleep after 10 mintues. Saved some money on my sleeping pills. :)

Skarbroew ( oh, mispelled my name and it look likes some kind of Viking beer, so I left it..what was I saying about pills?) zzzzzzz
