The NYT This AM
It's funny how self-revealing these media outlets are - each day is like a psychotherapy session. Today on A1, they're simply repeating the WH take, press releases, and maneuvers for this early handjob...er, handoff to the Iraqis with little real comment on the veracity of the stated motives for the Aministration doing so.

However, there's a neat little article about soon-to-be ex-governor Rowland of CT and his adversary. It seems that the Dem chairman was sending hundreds fo Press releases which the newspapers literally turned into 'paper airplanes' and ignored the story. For YEARS. Then of course somebody figured out that this guy can't be living this lifestyle on his salary, and all hell broke loose. The guy is quitting July 1. The point is, they knew there were problems here but they just didn't care enough to do what they're hired to do. No, not kiss butt, but to look for the story.

So on page 1 it's the usual BS and on page whatever it's the mea culpa of lazy, fat, slobbering, under-educated print journalists who are too busy padding their resumes to follow a story which is a blockbuster. It's like the guy who, when asked what mistake he's ever made says,"I once said that nobody's perfect."

1. Anything about Michael Moore's movie on NYT page A1?
If not, what page and section?

2. some of it was laziness
But, when Rowland first ran for governor, he effectively quashed a FOI request from the Hartford Courant regarding a police incident involving Rowland & his ex-wife. While 'word on the street' said that it involved Rowland either slapping his ex-wife around and/or tossing her down a flight of stairs, the nation's oldest continuously published newspaper probably did not want to publish rumors.

Some time after Rowland first ran for governor, the Courant was bought out by ultra-right wing Conrad Black's Tribune Company. Since all of the state's smaller newspapers were already Republican oriented, the Courant moving from moderate to hard right effectively squashed any strong criticism or even tough investigative reporting.
