and I do not wish to start a flame-Nader thread. The man has earned a place in our history. As I look at the DU boards today, however, I do wonder if he has family or friends who could reason with him -- about more than the 2004 election. Comments from members of the Congressional Black Caucus, after meeting with him, had a subtext that there was something not quite right about the man. I believe posters have alluded to a possible stroke he had at some time in the past, and other personality-related issues. He does not look, in pictures, like a healthy man.

And there are two curious threads here at DU.

Does anyone know if Nader has family or friends, who might be aware of his condition, and help him, if necessary? If not, there is precedent for a not-quite-right candidate having a substantial effect on an election -- in 1992, at the expense of George H.W. Bush. But it is probably not a good habit for a nation to get into.

2. My instinctive response would be

to send the local chapter of NAAFA (The National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance) to do the intervention....(Sorry, but I get a little bit of perverse humor from thinking of him answering the door to 20 or 30 very unabashedly obese individuals)

But, I agree with you, that he has gone off the deep end and that it is quite sad, given the promise of his work from long ago...

But I STILL think he'll throw. My rationale: He is all buddy-buddy with Kerry, telling him to pick Edwards and whatnot. He always talks about the "100 million voters" (playstation & porn addicts) that he's going to mobilize. I think it's a secret Democratic strategy to mobilize some voters who feel they have no efficacy, and then at the last minute Nader comes up with a big speech about how the Democrats are listening, etc., etc., he's seen the light, etc., etc., and Bush and Cheney are the left and right hand of the devil.

Or maybe this is just my wet dream.

And I hope I'm right, too. Ralph just CAN'T JUST CAN'T JUST CAN'T be this ridiculous.

I'm wondering if some of it isn't the "atlas shrugged" thing -- where people of a more independent bent (owing much to objectivism) believe that you have to crash the whole system before change can occur.

I've always said: when the REAL revolution starts, call me up. Until then, getting in your little car and complacently voting for the "third party candidate" isn't going to do anything for anybody. ;)
