Where Do You Get Your Breaking News?
How do you usually get to hear about breaking major news? I have NPR on in the morning on the drive to work, but that's mostly yesterday's stuff and specials of course. I tend to listen to yesterday's Thom Hartman show from White Rose until noon. A couple of folks around me at work keep radios on, so they will pipe up if anything big happens, then maybe NPR on the ride home. If something happens later than Lou Dobbs I'd have to see it here by 9:00 or not at all.

How do you get your day's news? Ever watch TV news? I never have.

6. ditto....
It is beyond compare to the US "news" networks. I see news in LBN daily that never makes it to the TV.

13. no kidding, the DU LBN board is the best
They're first with any breaking news in Iraq.

They were the first to say Reagan was within 24 hours of death.

They were the first to announce the Lamebawl divorce, DAYS ahead of the official announcement.

I've only seen a couple of things over the past 2 years that didn't later pan out as 100% accurate, and those things were from highly questionable sources.

4. RIght here
in DU.

I do turn on CNN in the morning for a few minutes to see what they're focusing on.

Daily Show and Countdown are good for regular news with a liberal slant.

8. At the top of the left hand column in the Forums Section.
AKA... Right Here.

I do check the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and NY Times several times a day.

CNN, Headline and MSNBC are all crap and commercials- almost as bad as the weather commercial channel.

11. if there is something you are especially interested in
you can go to Google news and sign up for news alerts. When a story comes up with certain key words you choose, news stories containing them are emailed to you.

also, quite good for progressive news:

www.truthout.org
www.commondreams.org
www.alternet.org

many newspapers also will email daily headlines, such as NYT, WP and the Guardian

12. DU First, Then...
Reuters, APTBO (AP breaking news from Tampa Bay Online), and MSRNC. I am almost ashamed to say it but Faux seems to have an in when it comes to breaking news out of Iraq. Just hold your nose during the political commentary parts of the story.

17. Google news
Mainly because it is my school's default page. They banned msn as their default when they displayed a picture of Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl. Some 6-year-old saw it, told his Mom, and the next day they changed all of the computers.

18. BTW: for the Latest Breaking News, DU is the BEST! because you get
linked to the best of breaking news from this site than you would from anywhere, unless you are sitting watching CNN/MSNBC all day.

And, when you get it from DU it's with links and discussion and follow ups even to International Sites like BBC.

DU is best if we have a Disaster, for Latest Breaking, imho.
