"Army to Call Up Retired, Discharged Troops"

Reply 4 - Posted by: Luke, 6/29/2004 3:28:58 PM

I would not mind being called back on AD. However, I would not be able to go to Iraq due to my age, and physical capabilaties. I sure could hold down a desk job in my old MOS.

Reply 6 - Posted by: pallis, 6/29/2004 3:36:08 PM

Maybe Kerry could be recalled and made to complete his tour of combat duty. They need to give a years notice to get in shape before they call me back.

Reply 7 - Posted by: ca4penn, 6/29/2004 3:38:59 PM

I would LLLOOOVVEEE to be called back up.

However, the Army has limited utility for a retired Field Artillery officer who was trained on M-109A3 and M-110A2 howitzers.

Shame, I would love the chance to serve my nation again. I put in the paperwork to ARPERCEN (or what ever the new permutation of the name is now).

Reply 10 - Posted by: COGOP, 6/29/2004 4:01:24 PM

In late 2001/early 2002, I was BEGGING the Navy to get me into Active Reserves.

"Too old," they said.

"Your loss," I replied.

End of story.

Reply 14 - Posted by: Shimmer128, 6/29/2004 4:17:00 PM

My man would luvvvv to be serving again. Unfortunately, (for him) or fortunately (for us) he's had a broken hip and also is too old and also is retired from A/D, so he's OUT.

Reply 16 - Posted by: nutmegger, 6/29/2004 4:51:35 PM

Hi folks. Heres one for you. I retired in 1972 after putting in 30 active years. I AM subject to recall to active duty, (Regular Air Force) .and I would gladly give it a go, now that I am computer litterate.

Reply 18 - Posted by: Ghost Dansing, 6/29/2004 5:03:16 PM

Allllreigty then. Pack up your troubles in 'yer ol' kit bag and smile, smile, smile. What's the use of worrying? It never helps at all.. follow the bouncing ball! Uncle Sam wants YOU! No Kidding!

Reply 19 - Posted by: NuGoddess, 6/29/2004 5:04:47 PM

Never was active duty but hubby was. That being said, I would love to sign up. As a previous poster stated, there must be SOMETHING this old lady can do ... even if it's just desk work to free up younger troops.

Reply 21 - Posted by: Luke, 6/29/2004 5:06:36 PM

Let me try to put this straight. After I retired from Active Duty after 26 years, I was later placed in a status that I would be recalled to Active Duty in the future, if situations warranted the recall. I had what they called Hip Pocket Orders, that I kept in my nightstand. I knew exactly where I would go and what I would be doing. There are many Military Retirees out there that has the same type orders right now, they just have not been told to report. I no longer meet the age requirements to be recalled. I would go in a heartbeat if recalled.

Reply 22 - Posted by: Penney, 6/29/2004 5:08:21 PM

Hubby says he would like to serve in some way if he gets the call from the Air Force. It's been over 40 years since he was on active duty though.

Reply 23 - Posted by: dlm, 6/29/2004 5:11:28 PM

Again, this is a non-issue being trussed up as something big.

Reply 25 - Posted by: dlm, 6/29/2004 5:35:38 PM

If you haven't noticed, #18, folks here don't have much issues with being called up. Matter of fact, a lot of folks here TRIED to get activated. So, the comment won't get the intended effect.

Than it does with the big yellow streaks running down the middle of their backs.

Lapel pin patriots talk a good game, but that's about it.

9. Well, you know I'd do it myself but...
...George called me last night, and said he needed uh, the ummm, swimming pools in our neighborhood guarded, so I have to stay. A pity too, because I'm sitting here right now shining up my war medals, hoping I could go out there and get a crack at those towelheads.

:argh: fucking freepers

10. They're all so brave and patriotic
NOT

Put your fanny on the line, instead of just mouthing your courage, Freepers. Don't wait around for you Uncle Sam to send an engraved invite! Call your recruiter today! Or sign up as a merc, it pays betterand you don't have to pay taxes on most of it so you can stiff the treasury which does support the troops.

Hey, techies, anyway to get mailing addresses for these bozos?

15. Try this one, from the mother-site:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1162537/posts

If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

(snip)

Age 40 - me too, only if I had a guarantee that GWB would be my CIC.

I would, but one thing concerns me...that being the very real chance John Kerry can hoodwink enough people to vote for him and he becomes the next commander in cheif.

At age 48, my IRR status as a Navy Reserve CDR/05 just "expired" (i.e. 24 yrs since I was first commissioned). Reason I didn't return to (at least) voluntary "Select Reserve" was that I was 30-40 lbs over weight. (Hard to get down to 210 lbs when you're 6'2" and over 40 yrs.)
Yeah, I'd return to active duty tomorrow, in a heart beat, if they wanted me. I have regrets...

--------

I would not volunteer as things stand today. Afghanistan was a legitimate target but we still haven't finished the job over there. Two and one half years now and OBL is still hiding out with Mullah Omar and company. Iraq was a costly mistake.

No, if the President asked for volunteers today I would not step forward.

is the number of people who say that if our country were attacked, they would not serve under whoever the Commander-in-Chief may be. Only if it's the Chimp.

17. Caesarism and Conquest
really get those guys going, especially when it's other people that have to go to the front.

I really don't doubt that they would love to go 'if only they could.' Military service tends to turn people into yes-saying, leader-worshipping morons.

I think we should relax the rules and give them another chance to bleed.

Tis a pity for them that the Army doesn't have a Message Board division where they could wear a snazzy uniform and get paid to type "SUPPORT ARE TROOPS OR GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!" all day.

23. There is a job for everyone!
Deaf freepers can be in artillery. Women freepers, that are too small and frail to fight can act as intelligence agents. Extremely old freepers can push paperwork, and crippled freepers in wheelchairs can shuttle ammunition to the front lines. What the hell kind of an excuse is being too old, or having a disability? Come on freeps, this is what you have been waiting for, a chance to put your money where your mouths are...

20. Puhleeeeeeeze, someone who can post there
use these as your reasons for not serving.

-I popped positive on a piss test and lost my flight status.
-I'm working to get Senator _______ elected.
-I have an anal cyst.
-All the spots are taken by minorities.
-I have other priorities, like getting three deferrments.
-I already served my eight hours of drill-time...just look at my dental appointment for proof.

We could really have a lot of fun with this. I think I am banned for life for saying something not nice about Reagan.
