1)What part moved you the most?
2)What part angered you the most?
3)What part do you think most lent credibility to Moore's detractors and critics (I think we all agree that even if there were parts, that we don't care, but for the sake of discussion let's be honest).
My answers: 1)The part that moved me the most was seeing that soldier who said he would not go back to Iraq. The utter conflict in this guy just tore me apart. He was clearly so proud to wear the uniform and serve his country, but was determined not to let that suck him into going against his beliefs and continue killing. That segment still gets to me when I think about it.
2)The part where the congressional black caucus members stand on the Senate floor, alone, with no support and not one signature. This made me enraged and tearful.
3)I loathe Hitchens with a passion but I'll admit that he does kinda sorta only in a very little way have a point about the fact that Moore gives the impression that he is diminishing the Afghanistan war by claiming it was in some part due to the oil pipeline, but then criticizing Bush for detracting from that war by going into Iraq. Again, I don't AGREE with Hitchens and I don't think that's what Moore believes, but it does have a hint of truth to it in that people could pull that message away from it.
Please, no lectures or rants on point 3. I'm just talking gut instincts and personal impressions here, and playing devil's advocate, not looking for a debate on any one issue. I love the movie and no matter what criticisms someone may have about it, it's still not even a tiny fraction of what the mainstream medai have done over the past 4 years.
