2. I've heard rumors about this
I guess Viacom is putting him up on some of their own frequencies.

Good for Howard!

Return of the King of All Media

June 29, 2004

Howard Stern says he has a big announcement coming tomorrow (6/30) morning. The message is big enough that he has set a press conference for 8:30 am to reveal what he has on his mind. Could it be that The King of All Media is going to announce his return to one or more of the markets where he was dumped by Clear Channel?

That's the hot rumor, though no one in the Stern camp is talking. One insider did tell FMQB "it's obvious to me that the folks who are best at signing on Stern stations are busy this week." Another report says that Stern may get back on the air in five of the six markets he lost.

Some rumored stations so far:

WPBZ/West Palm Beach
WBZZ/Pittsburgh (currently running without jocks and a mystery announcement)
KPLN/San Diego
WOCL/Orlando
WZNE/Rochester
KRNC/Fresno
WQYK/Tampa (AM station)

7. SPOILER!
:) Well, I wondered what the PC was about, it hasn't aired here yet.

That is really good news. These wingers will rue the day they ever screwed with Stern!

8. I would love to hear him in Atlanta. Plezze, Howard.
I doubt it will happen. This is the worst radio market for a large city I have ever been exposed to. Horrible radio here folks.

19. Ick. Same here
In Miwaukee, it's Bob and Tom.

They have their moments, but they are still kinda lame. At least they're not political.

I'd love to hear Howard here, but nobody will pick him up. The 'Bob and Tom' station used to run Mancow (a poor man's 'freeper-style' Stern) then dropped him, and it doesn't seem like they want to pony up the bucks for Stern and jump into the local radio big leagues.

20. Bob & Tom are OK
I think the Mr. Obvious bits are hilarious, especially the one about the dishwasher that stops working. I was in tears the first time I heard it.

28. Funny thing is...
...Bob and Tom are every bit as raunchy as Stern. But guess who Clear Channel is pusing hard in syndication?

Bob and Tom are syndicated on over 100 stations by CC.

17. Yes ATL Radio sucks
We have 2 redneck rock stations

2 country stations

only ONE jazz station, and it mostly plays R&B

THREE right wing AM radio stations

It's pathetic for a city the size of ATL.

21. Three right-wing radio stations?
640, 750, and who else?

I'm not sure I'd call 99x a redneck rock station (actually, I don't like the term redneck but that's another story). I can see how 96 rock fits in with that description - I however, think 96 rock is sub-par because of their 10 song play list.

23. The morning show
on FM 93 isn't too bad though. Its classic rock, Mara Davis and Dunham. Mara has been known to let loose a few liberal thoughts. Hey its better than the show they had on that station before.

27. Don't forget our defeatist elitist public radio station, that only plays
Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Market Place and Fresh Air. The rest of time Classical Music. Not that Morning Edition and All Things Considered are any good any more anyway. Fresh Air has its moments. Anything else that is any good is stuck on after 7.00 or 8.00 at night.

22. Don't. . .I am serious don't. . .I'll tell you why.
I am a huge Stern fan but I understand why people don't like him. I think if he turns you off you should continue not to listen to him. Other than fighting Bush and supporting Kerry he is still Howard Stern. A while ago a lot of people said they wish he was on Air America and I recommended against that for the same reason. As liberals we have a big tent and we have a diversity of opinion however I think that we have to understand that we will not all like the same things. I fear that a lot of people will turn on Stern and expect him to change. . .my suggestion is to appreciate that he is on our side, but do not feel compelled to support his show if it is not your cup of tea.

24. Feh! No VA tidewater area! I Hope he trashes the CC channels!!!
I know I know Stern can be rude, crude and obsesses too much on porn stars and anyone with a sillicone rack. But for the most part he can be gut bustingly funny and since hes has gone after Bush he has been brilliant and I envy whoever can get him on the dials. The Mike Moore interview was great!
I Hope he trashes the CC channels in ratings where they cut him off!

25. The confirmed stations
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 08:46 AM by RatTerrier
If you live near any of them:

http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=29910

Pittsburgh
WBZZ (93.7) - Infinity CHR “B937”

West Palm Beach
WPBZ (103.1) - Infinity Modern Rock “Buzz103.1 FM”

San Diego
KPLN (103.7) - Infinity Classic Hits “The Planet”

Orlando
WOCL (105.9) - Infinity Modern Rock “O-Rock”

Rochester
WZNE (94.1) - Infinity Modern Rock “The Zone”

Houston
KIKK-AM

Tampa
WQYK-AM

Austin
KQBT-FM

Fresno
KRNC-FM

What's interesting is that there are AM stations involved, in Tampa and Houston. It's kind of telling, since he's voiced opposition to being put on AM in the past. But the presence in Tampa (swing state) and Houston (Poppy's backyard) is very telling.

Mega-media conglomerate vs. vast right-wing conspiracy?
