1. So glad to see you finally found this. Not new to alot of us here.
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 03:09 PM by anarchy1999
Our outrage is nothing new. Take care fryguy. The outrage is why DU exists and why it was founded.

Have you found Greg Palast yet? Go look. Do a google.

19. well clearly it is something that needs to be often repeated...
....here as well as on other sites and media sources to keep it fresh in the minds of those who might not frequent (or even know about) DU - which is the great majority of the country.....

2. That's great
Very well done and very powerful. The only thing he maybe failed to do was indicate how Harris' scrubbing disproportionately disenfranchised black voters who are overwhelmingly Democrats. I don't know how clear it is how her scrubbing hurt Gore and helped the Republicans - how it was biased.

21. and recounts have been outlawed due to black box voting.
Letters don't work, phone calls don't work, nothing fucking works with the administration in florida. We need an absolute turn out of voters, we need many, many people to stand outside the polls this November and make sure the votes count even if they are checks on a list. If you don't live here you cannot imagine what it's gonna be like.

Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 03:53 PM by Lisa0825
I watched it a couple more times ot get accurate figures and quotes for you.... here it goes.... try to see it on a computer sometime... it's a VERY effective flash.

Opening montage of all the players.. Katherine Harris, Bush, Gore, etc..

Talks about the fact that Choicepoint/DBT was appt to eliminate ineligible voters from the rolls. This was the first time this was ever done by a private corporation. It shows the chairman of the board of DBT and other board members, and says all are GOP verteran supporters.

Moves on to Katherine Harris.... she wears many hats... Secy of State... Supervisor of Elections... and head of Bush's campaign in Florida. (my favorite part of the video is when they show a pic of KH, and background music is timed to the lyrics, "Don't fuck with me!")

The methods DBT used to scrub the voter rolls are outlined... start with ex-felons... people who shared a surname with ex-felons.... people who shared a birthdate with ex-felons... 58,000 voters were scrubbed as ineligible. DBT admits to a 15% error rate. That's 8700 votes. Gore lost by 537 votes in Florida. Independent investigations showed as high 95% inaccurate!!!!!!!! That means 55,100 voters were ILLEGALLY disenfranchised!!!

And what for Katherine Harris?

Jail?

Censure?

Dismissal???

NO!!!!!!!!!!

(scary creepy music starts slowly and gets louder as the image of a smiling Katherine Harris in front of ballons in the shape of the flag fades in)

Meet Congresswoman Katherine Harris, elected to the US House in 2002.

By the rules SHE set.

Is this the future of Democracy in America?

God Bless Bush's America.

God help us all.

I will decide whether to be afraid or outraged, thank you.

If I wanted to be told how to think or feel I'd vote for Bush.

16. hmmm....
slightly hypersensitive aren't we? if you choose not to be outraged, so be it, its your choice - just as it was your choice to log on to DU, read the post, etc. my comment was merely an editorial addition to the message title, not an instruction on how to feel. sorry if you felt otherwise....

23. First, your title is ALL CAPS That's hostile in an internet forum.
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 05:04 PM by troublemaker
The implication is that your post is more important than others or that everyone else is too dumb to figure out how to do all caps. Avoiding all-cap titles is just good citizenship, since the alternative is an attention-getting-titles arms race.

Second, your title is full of exclamation points!!!! Again, a consciously in-your-face attention-seeking style choice.

Third, you use letters in the title to tell people what to think about something they haven't even seen yet when you could use the same number of letters to provide some indication of the subject of your post.

Posts with titles like OMG! READ THIS!!!! defeat the whole purpose of having a title, which is to allow browsers to determine if they want to click on a particular post. All you told us was that you want us to read it, but we already knew that. Why else do any of us post anything?

This is just a style complaint and I hope it didn't seem personal. My fault if it did. When we reply to messages we are in a sense literally replying to *messages*--there's a person on the other end, but the letters on the screen are all we have to go by.

26. thanks for the web-etiquette lesson
perhaps, in your opinion, i violated some social norms of the internet (as if that statement isn't a per se contradiction in terms). i do also understand the concern of people over-using caps, just as they over use subject lines such as "as me anything" or devolve into tourette's-like rhymes to earlier posts, yet i am unaware of any explicit prohibition at DU regarding the use of CAPS or exclamation points in subject lines. please feel free to direct me to any such rules.

the simple fact is, your original response involved none of those issues. your criticisms are noted, but, even based on your more detailed critique, there is still nothing to indicate i was telling people how to feel or think, as your original message decried. admittably, i was using an attention grabbing style, but that does not equate to telling people how to think or feel in anyway.

10. You think THAT sucks? Check THIS out!
In the 2000 presidential election, 1.9 million Americans cast ballots that no one counted. "Spoiled votes" is the technical term. The pile of ballots left to rot has a distinctly dark hue: About 1 million of them -- half of the rejected ballots -- were cast by African Americans although black voters make up only 12 percent of the electorate.

This year, it could get worse.

those hijackers of democracy are. This was the first time I've seen this clip and it absolutely enraged me. (again) It is understandable how all of us must fight till the end. These creeps are beyond nothing. There is no comfort zone in sight as long as they are calling the shots. By the way, I have donated as much as I could this month to the Kerry campaign. My sister and I both have, we have so much at stake.

18. why aren't Floridians outraged that neither Grahm or Mach our two
Senators didn't request a recount for Gore? We just needed ONE senator to request it and no one stepped up. I still am going to email them both and ask why they allowed the elections to be like Mexico elections, crooked and under a guise of suspicion.

24. I have always admired and applauded Eric Blumrich's videos
they are always succint and on message.

But this one while entertaining, and while displaying the shallowness of a Katherine Harris in all her hard edged looks and approach, I take issue wi9th the
god thing.

The thing that will , at the very least, enable us to overcome this evil of the Bush regime, will be our own efforts, and not the efforts of a god in the sky.
