Millionaires Fill US Congress Halls
(Don't think we need publically financed elections and other election reforms? Think again!)

WASHINGTON - The US Congress, the domed bastion of democracy in the capital of capitalism, abounds with deep-pocketed politicians whose fortunes have made the legislative branch of government a millionaire's club.

In the 435-member House of Representatives, 123 elected officials earned at least one million dollars last year, according to recently released financial records made public each year.

Next door in the ornate Senate, whose blue-blooded pedigree includes a Kennedy and a Rockefeller, one in three people are millionaires.

By comparison, less than one percent of Americans make seven-figure incomes.

1. A bit misleading.

A millionaire is someone who has $1 million in net worth.

This article is only talking about those who made $1 million last year.

I might eventually be a millionaire if by the time I retire, if I save enough. Big difference between that and making $1 million in a year.

Other than that, I agree wholeheartedly with the article. The biggest problem with that is that Democrats are just as likely as Republicans to make $1 million/year, and folks like that, no matter their party, have no clue as to the problems of ordinary people, and are much, much, much more likely to let huge tax cuts for the rich go through, since they themselves benefit so much.

2. Which is why I am glad I live in Maine. At least we have
voluntary Clean Elections.

3. I really admire you and Arizona that way.
There is no way in hell Clean Elections will ever pass in Colorado.

4. Hey, I'm in Arizona, but relatively new to politics...
So what does this "Clean Elections" thing mean? Thanks for any info in advance. :)
