This Isn't Original But...
Do you think before the debate with Cheney, Edwards should say

"Mr. Cheney.. there will be children and young adults watching this debate so let's commit to watching our language."

or

"I know you are very quick to anger so please try to be calm tonight."

1. No, it would be seen as a cheap shot

but if the issue or circumstances should arise during the debate, Edwards should say something to the effect:

"I know that sometimes we all let anger get the best of us and say things we know we shouldnt, but we should have the decency to admit the inappropriateness of such behavior, not express pride and pleasure at having sone it and gotten away with it. What kind of an example does that set for children ?"

2. In the 1960 Debate Truman's Language Became A Debate Issue..

I'll bet some here folks saw it live or the clip...

Nixon said the use of foul language was shameful and JFK retorted that he'll leave it up to Mrs. Truman to correct it...

What's priceless is we later earned that Nixon had the biggest potty mouth of all....

I guess we'll have to wait for Cheney's papers to see if he shared Nixon's affinity for making racist, anti-semitic, and homophobic remarks....
