Edwards has energized the Democrats, Time for an ambiguous Terror Warning
I'm sure the timing of this is just a coincidence

Ridge Warns of 'Credible' al-Qaida Plot

By KATHERINE PFLEGER SHRADER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The United States is tightening security in the face of a steady stream of intelligence indicating al-Qaida may seek to mount an attack aimed at disrupting elections, the White House said.

The Department of Homeland Security is addressing the threat and has efforts under way to "ramp up security," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday.

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said the Bush administration based its decision to bolster security on "credible" reports about al-Qaida's plans, coupled with the pre-election terror attack in Spain earlier this year and recent arrests in England, Jordan and Italy.

"This is sobering information about those who wish to do us harm," Ridge said. "But every day we strengthen the security of our nation."

U.S. officials do not have specific knowledge about where, when or how such an attack would take place, but the CIA (news - web sites), FBI (news - web sites) and other agencies "are actively working to gain that knowledge," Ridge said.

7. Right, and this one smacks of wishful thinking
Terra during DNC campaign, they get rid of Kerry and suspend the elections.

Terra during RNC campaign, they get all sorts of sympathy and allow the elections. Bush will be nowhere near it, of course. Advance planning and all that.

2. It's either reaction to Edwards or the possible forthcoming Plame
indictments. I am hoping that it is number 2.

3. Or possibly a reaction to the Ken Lay indictment
Whenever things look bad for Bushco, you can always count on them to shout "Terra!"

6. Gettin' tired of these...
I'm so tired of hearing about these "terror alerts". It's sort of funny how when Kerry announced his running mate, how everything became happy! And then, of course, "SHRUB" needs to use his scare tactics and say there's a terror alert. Suuuuuuuure there is...and I'm sure now, all the conservative talking heads on Fox News will be all over this and continue stating: "Now, if Kerry becomes president, we'lll just see how safe we feel with him leading our country because Bush is hard to compete with when it comes to national security..." :argh: Let me just say, we'll be a hell of a lot safer with Kerry as president than Bush and his false scare tactics. "The terra alert is now red, no green...no YELLOW! Yeah! That's it...we'll make it yella today."

8. We have credible evidence!

just not enough to bump us from an elevated risk of attack to a high risk.
