What if Bush was a civilian...?
and had been out of office about six months, and the Saddam trial was going on, but it had been moved to the Hague? Suppose that George W Bush, the civilian had been called to testify in the trial? Further suppose that George W Bush gets caught in the questioning and exposes his guilt? Suppose several allies of ours requests that President Kerry permit Mr Bush to testify further in the trial? Suppose they issue an indictment against the civilian, Mr Bush? Would President Kerry feel obligated to protect him? As a civilian, what rights would Mr Bush legally enjoy that you or I could not?

(I posted part of this in the poll but I thought this migh be an interesting scenario to comment on)

You are basing this on the premise that he was elected which is the furthest thing from the truth..... so in a way... he really is a civilian... in many persons eyes.

3. They are never really a civilian again
Oh maybe on paper, but in reality, never again.

Ex presidents still have secret service protection and are still addressed as Mr president.

Furthermore, under what legal authority could a trial at the hague compel Bush, or you or I for that matter to testify? None that I can think of.
