(not all, but most) have decided that they don't have to listen to their political base, that once they get to Washington, all they have to do is what they themselves consider appropriate. Somewhere along the line these idiots have forgotten that they were elected to represent the people of their state, district, etc., not promote their own personal agendas. All this started with the theft of the 2000 election. A real patriot would have been outraged by the actions of the bush* cabal and the Supreme Court. Of course Al Gore was no help, his capitulation was the first action of what has become a continual assault on the Constitution and the civil rights of the American people. Since then our esteemed representatives have allowed the bush* administration to lie with impunity, to bankrupt the Treasury, to allow the national debt to grow to the point that our great-great-grandchildren will be making payment on it, and to allow them to deny us even basic rights, like free speech, the right to protest, the right of protection from unreasonable search and seizure.
The point I want to make is that most of these guys pander to the party in power. It was obvious from the beginning that the reasons for invading Iraq were based on smoke and mirrors. And now that we're stuck over there, they're looking for a way to make themselves look like poor little lambs led to the slaughter by the big bad CIA. They're so damn afraid of the bush* administration that they won't lay the blame where it really lies. And I do not understand why that is. The bush* presidency (or whatever you call it) was tanking prior to the lead up to the war. Then 911 happened. Instead of looking for the truth behind the event, they allowed the thugs in power sell us a war based on half-truths and lies, and they didn't even put up a fight. They ignored the fact that pre-war statements by Powell indicated that Iraq was no threat, ignore the fact that 17 out of 19 of the terrorists were Saudis. But a lot of the public didn't (I don't include the die-hard morans in this statement) and neither did millions around the world. Not everyone was taken in by the official 'we have to attack Iraq to protect America' bullshit. History will not be kind to these guys. But to allow the CIA to be the scapegoat for the policies shoved down the throats of the American people, the Iraqi people, and the world by the bush* administration and the neocons is just plain outright damn disgusting.
