It's going to be a tough week for us
I'm listening to CSPAN and RW are taking the opportuntity to call in and highlight their attacks on Kerry, Theresa, Edwards, Elizabeth and anyone remotely connected with them that they can smear. Our buttons are going to be pushed all over the place.

Here's my wish: I hope we show the moderates tuning in that all of those blowhards are hateful, blinded by faith idiots. In other words, let them go ahead an take the attack rhetoric on hyper during this week. It will turn the moderates off so fast as to what the Neo-cons and Republicans have done to this country, they'll run to Kerry and the Dems so fast that it will seal the deal!

2. trumad, I like your optimism!
It may be unwarranted and ultimately untrue

(you do know I am rooting for you to be right and me wrong about most of this stuff?)

but I like it.

3. Cute.
But I wasn't really talking about me so much as what the impression will be of others still making a decision about this election.

6. See? It's working already
I'm hypersensitive and it's barely begun. LOL It should be a very productive week around here, but I'll probably end up watching so as not to miss the possible train wreck.

Guess who the guest is on CNN Monday night...Nader.

What a wonderful choice! </sarcasm>

10. The team covering the convention for MSNBC sounded OK.
Chris Matthews, Ron Reagan, Joe Trippi and I didn't catch the fourth.

I'll probably go back and forth b/t c-span, MSNBC and the networks (for what little coverage they will provide :( ).

8. Call Me Pollyanna...Or The Male Equivelent...But...
I'm looking forward to this convention more than any I can remember in memory. This week will show the best of the Democratic party and it can only be filtered, spin and lied about only so far.

The key is the DNC gets an hour each night of prime time, plus at least that much if not more on the cable networks that they can't edit or alter...it'll be Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Barak Obama, Ted Kennedy, Howard Dean and many others...then John Kerry speaking one-on-one to the American people. This is going to be very valuable.

Don't let the post=speech spinning or the side shows get in your way and I think we are too hair-triggered to cry foul when the wingnuts try to pull some shit, only to see that it's backfired on them. They're on a real slippery slope at this point since there's still no GOOP agenda for Bunnypant's re-selection and any reasonable person (translation: Independents and moderates) will see the contrast between what the Democrats offer as opposed to what's currently going on and the possibility of this extending another 4 or more years.

Reading the Freeper posts about the LA Times poll is refreshing. You can see how deep in the sand so many have their heads stuck. We laugh at how out of touch with reality they are, but we can easily walk into that same situation if we look at everything in such sinister tones.

My suggestion: Get tons of your favorite refreshments and libations, a remote control so you can scan the spin for amusement and enjoy the Convention. I expect we'll see a very strong show and party...in contrast to the travesty that the GOOP will attempt to pull off in NYC. That, too, will be a positive contrast for us.

Kudos to Kerry's campaign for staying high road to this point. I know many chaffe to kick this regime in the gonads, but the way we really defeat these assholes is to show how mean and selfish they are...and the best way to do that is to let them do that all to by themselves, and now they have a 4 year track record to live down.

I believe we live in cycles...we're starting to turn the corner from another one of those dark, conservative times...ala the 50's and early 20's that ended in an enlightened period for both this nation and the world.

Cheers!

9. I hope you're right.
However, I think the media may be drawn to what's going on outside the convention - in the "free speech zone" where protesters - no doubt including "wholesome" repuke types - will be in a pen surrounded by razor wire.

As has been pointed out elsewhere on this board, the repukes have been guilty of this shit throughout the * regime. However, this is the first time most Americans will be introduced to it. And you can be sure the pen will quickly become the "Democrat Internment Camp" - and a PR nightmare for Kerry.

11. There's Limited Airtime
The networks are only coughing up one hour a night for coverage...and two on Thursday. This isn't like '68 where the cameras went on at 4pm and didn't stop blinking. Us junkies will get our fill on cable, but the majority will only get the hour each night and the follow-up coverage.

This isn't a bad thing, either. First, the hour is at 10pm EDT...then there'll be a half hour of local news followed by Letterman/Leno/Nightline. While Leno is still on my shit list, he still will take his shots at Bunnypants, Nightline will do a straight-up replay of the earlier events and Letterman has been a salvation to us ABB'ers for a long time. Sure, the wingnuts will be on Faux where Brit will snear and O'Really will fake outrage and Hannity will claim he's been attacked by a black hispanic lesbian teacher/trial lawyer.

Unless there's some major disruption, I don't see what's going on outside the Fleet Centre to be much of a distraction or need to be. I also understand the free speech zone issue...both pros and cons, but I see this as a far more serious matter in NYC than in Boston.

14. You've given me a different perspective
in a way to watch the spin. Thanks!!

I'll need to get pick up a case or two of Lite for the night time viewing. I think I'll make up a drinking game for the talking points. "Trial lawyer" <gulp> "intellectual" <gulp> "Clinton" <gulp> "Berger" <gulp> "Post 9/11" <gulp> "terrorists" <gulp>.

No way I'm putting "liberal" on the drink list though. I'll be smashed within the first five minutes! LOL

*Note to self: pick up aspirin for the mornings*

I think you're on target about the cycles. :)

12. I like it when you make entries like this. We're doomed. We're doomed
Kind of helps the GOP. Why would your button be pushed by non-issues?

13. The only thing that really worries me is that
the decreased television coverage may hurt our bounce.

Otherwise--the convention coverage is a high point for me! I look forward to it every four years.

Sure--some talking heads will be jerks--but they do that everyday--and we are used to it by now! I am just going to sit back and enjoy all the great speakers.

(And I will be upset about the lack of prime-time coverage--to me that was done just to hurt Kerry--and limit his bounce--makes me very angry)

17. dont know for certain but msnbc seems excited about the convention
and i was pleased to read that chris matthews said he couldnt be more excited. they have very good people covering for them (incl reagan and trippi) and i think msnbc is a good choice if you want the expanded coverage with commentary

of course there is cspan as a safe choice to get all the coverage and you dont need cable

and as for cnn, i think ill wait to read about them on du. i dont trust them and dont want their spin to ruin what looks to be a fantastic group of speakers.

have fun (and make sure to drink plenty of water along with the other stuff!)

18. I think Bill Press
will be covering for MSNBC also. I have a soft spot in my heart for him from the time he hosted the late, great "Spin Room." Ah, the good old days, when CNN actually had balls.
