Is Rove/Bush* holding back any Kerry attack material?
Or do you think, because they are already so desperate this early in the campaign that they've pretty much shot their load?

It seems like the attacks are numerous, but very superficial right now.

1. One big one
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 07:12 PM by fujiyama
is Kerry's opposition to capital punishment and a reversal over the years regarding the execution of terrorists, which he now supports.

No doubt he'll handle it better than Dukakis, but it's still an issue that has the possibility of causing problems.

6. Good point.
Kerry will have to be ready to knock this one down when it comes up.

4. I don't think they have anything big....

They seem to be using his Senate record against him more so than usual. What's surprising to me is they are playing the sunny optimism card right not---"We've turned the corner" "Results matter" which is totally stupid because all bush*'s results have been criminally lousy.

I think all the negativity backfired on them. People don't like to be fearful all the time. And they probably polled the optimism issue--and they saw Edwards, Obama and realized that demonizing Dems wasn't a big vote getter with undecideds.

5. Well I don't think being anti-death
penalty will hurt Kerry at all. I imagine that most Americans would be eager to get rid of this horrible policy--which is applied in an unfair and racist manner. And Bush is rabidly on the other side--look at how many innocents have been murdered in Texas.

On this issue, we are in the right.

7. Wow, that would be the perfect death penalty defense for Kerry---
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 07:38 PM by Jackpine Radical
if he could come up with some instances in which Bush mishandled appeals and innocent people went to their deaths in TX. How much ya wanna bet they got something like that lying around?

On edit: I just emailed this idea to the Kerry campaign.

10. Yes, wasn't it the FBI files on Kerry, obtained by some writer through
the FOIA? But they wouldn't give out the originals would they? Just make copies?

'Cause otherwise I could see a Rove plot where the files "turn up" late in the campaign altered with all kinds of bad crap in them.

9. I sincerely hope Kerry has crackerjack guards around his
airplane at all times and knows everyone who has entree to it very well. I do not trust this administration. I believe they will stoop to anything to win.

12. Kerry has had BFEE and GOP operatives after him for over 3 decades.
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 07:38 PM by blm
Nixon's WH tried to take him down. Kerry endured.

During his IranContra, BCCI investigations they put the FBI on him as well as every right wing connected news outlet calling him a "conspracy theory nut" even. Kerry endured.

I think the operatives worked feverishly throughout the primary to kill Kerry's campaign by shutting him out of news coverage of significant campaign developments, like his speech to the National VFW and his endorsement by the Firefighters. For months the mediawhores told us that Kerry's campaign was dead. Kerry endured.

If the BFEE hasn't been able to get anything to bring him down yet, especially when his investigations prompted a Special Prosecutor for IranContra, then there's nothing to get.

Kerry has known about their constant surveillance of him for a long, long time. He's not a stupid man.

14. The old attack machine just doesn't seem to be working anymore....
Their attempt to turn the NASA hazmat suit thing into Kerry's
"Dukakis in the tank" picture fell flat pretty fast.

They seem to be using and outdated playbook. Remember the
intern rumor? They still think people are as easily fooled as they
were in 1998. Even if they do have something, people are getting
kind of shock proof. We want a functional President, not a minicam
report from his bedroom.
