the bushies were obscene & cursing you out.
back in 1992, clinton did that "rock around the country" last-minute campaign fling & at the last moment, added mcallen, texas as a stop on the tour. i was still a bit undecided about who to vote for the next day, and as i had election day off, i decided 'what the heck' and went to my first ever political rally.
i found myself in a very friendly, festive crowd full of people of all ages, many with their kids, including some little ones, along. clinton, of course, was very late, but at the end of the stump, he did make his way around the tarmac where we were standing to speak with & shake the hand of anyone who wanted him to do so. i still swear up & down he was forcefully dragged back onto the plane by his secret service agents.
as the huge crowd made it back to the parking lot, we were all accosted by about 12 bush sr. supporters. ok, fine, it's their right to be there to show their support for their candidate, right? yet, instead of doing that, they were yelling all kinds of obscenities, calling the women whores & bitches, the men assholes & dopers, making liberal use of the "cheney" word, not caring that there were TONS OF KIDS HEARING THIS. i was stunned.
well, that sealed the deal for me....if that's the republican idea of "family values," i'll take the democratic version, thank you kindly. i haven't looked back at a republican candidate since.
