Most disgusting cartoon I've ever seen, today's Chicago Sun-Times....
This is a new low from Jack Higgins, who I thought couldn't get any lower. Below is the "contact" page for the Sun-Times if you'd like to let them know how you feel. Also, anybody want to forward this to the Kerry campaign for informational purposes?

4. It's a Hollinger paper, almost the same as a Murdoch....
Murdoch did own the Sun-Times for a while, but sold it to Conrad Black and his band of thieves.

6. yes...yes
it is somewhat generous to call the Sun-Times a newspaper. It is printed in tabloid-style (very similar to the ones you see at the checkout counter).

I pity some of the journalists who accepted positions at this rag prior to it being purchased by the current ownership. Some, like Mike Downey, were respected journalists prior to that time. I don't think most of them could post their resumes with much pride these days.

7. My Letter
Jack Higgins' editorial cartoon in today's Sun-Times hits a new low in content. If I ever see anything even remotely disgusting in your paper again, I will make it my mission to ensure that nobody bothers to pick up your partisan rag again.

9. I sent a short comment...
even though I suck as a writer. I am so disgusted!:

Today's cartoon by Jack Higgins was one of the most tasteless political cartoons I've ever come across. Funny? Disgusting! Liberal Media? Please! Considering the major media outlets seem to be shilling more and more for the rabid right , I shouldn't be surprised to see this kind of sick garbage in your paper. How sad for America.

Actually, I am kind of surprised to see this in the Sun-Times, but then again, I've never seen Jack Higgins stuff (that I know of).

P.S.--For balance, I think Higgins should do a cartoon depicting Laura Bush driving and coming up on a 'Stop' sign. Maybe Cheney could be the guy in the other car who gets broadisded. Oh, that would be SOOOOO funny. Haha.........ha. Nah, just sick and stupid.

11. What's with Chicago's two major papers?
I might be wrong, but didn't they BOTH endorse Bush last time?

Which one does Novak write for?

As for the comic, it's disgusting and not at all funny.

14. The Tribune has NEVER endorsed a Democrat for president.
It should be interesting to see what they do this year.

But that cartoon is just... bad. I mean, what's the point? It doesn't *say* anything. It's just a vague, ham-handed swing at Kennedy. Very poor cartooning.

16. Unreal.
My comments to the feedback site:

Regarding Jack Higgins' cartoon in today (Sunday, August 1) Sun-Times:

This cartoon is the single most tasteless, ill-concieved, baseless, and insulting piece of political commentary I have EVER seen. Mr. Higgins obviously has no shame, so asking him to be ashamed of himself seems pointless - but running such hate-fueled rhetoric serves no purpose but to further divide our country, spread lies and rumors about a member of our legislative body, and indeed, lower the collective IQ of your readership by yet another 10 points.

Shame on all of you.

17. My LTTE
"That Jack Higgins sure can nail an issue! I am so looking forward to his take on the dead intern found in Joe Scarborough's office and the boyfriend that Laura Bush murdered with her car. Oh, then he can do one on the wife Newt Gingrich dumped for his intern while the wife (#2, I think) was hospitalized for cancer treatment. Go Jack Higgins!"

18. Sickening...And I Am About To End A 60-Year Family Subscription
To: John Cruickshank
Publisher
Chicago Sun-Times
401 N. Wabash
Chicago, IL 60611
letters@suntimes.com

Dear Mr. Cruickshank,

Nearly 60 years ago, the Sun-Times was founded as an alternative to highly partisan, Tribune. Marshall Field felt readers needed a voice that reflected the common sense values of Chicagoans as opposed to being a mouthpiece of a political party or pushing their political agenda under the guise of "news". For almost all my life, my days have started with the Sun-Times, but this is soon to end.

I found today's Jack Higgins editorial cartoon to be extremely offensive. This was an overt and slanderous attack on Mrs. Heinz-Kerry as well as bringing up uncalled for images of Chappaquidick...all based on comments Mrs. Heinz (and she was Mrs. Heinz at the time, the wife of the Republican Senator of Pennsylvania) about Ted Kennedy...remarks surely Mrs. Heinz-Kerry hasn't made in recent years.

It's highly doubtful your paper would ever run an editorial cartoon featuring George W. Bush's wife in a similar situation or using any or put Mr. Chenney in that car with the words he uttered on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

While I've enjoyed Mr. Higgins in the work (a copy of some of his finest pieces from the the past decade decorate our refigerator), this cartoon resembled the worst of "the politics of personal destruction". I thought both Mr. Higgins and the Chicago Sun-Times was above this level of jingoism. Unfortunately, I without a retraction and/or appology by yourself and/or Mr. Higgins about this cartoon, the time has finally come that I take those free Chicago Tribune trial subscriptions and only check out the Sun-Times via the internet.

This is an extremely difficult letter to write, since it's like losing an old trusted friend, but I feel I can't support with my subscription dollars a newspaper that presents such offensive material.

Repectfully,

(A letter written primarily by my other half, but firmly endorsed here as well).

Cheers!

here's what i sent the letters to the editor:

This morning, I was directed by a friend to your website to view Mr. Hitchens' despicable "cartoon" regarding Sen. Kennedy & Mrs. Heinz-Kerry. While there was a thumbnail of the "cartoon" on your homepage, I was unable to view it when I clicked on it. Instead, your website claimed that the "cartoon" that was running in the August 1 edition of your paper was about Jack Ryan.

Eventually, I was able to view the "cartoon" as it actually ran in your paper (through another source). I wonder if you pulled the "cartoon" from your website because it was generating a huge negative reaction. Ordinarily, I do not get myself in a dither over editorial cartoons, but I do find incredibly offensive your actions in conducting a "bait & switch" on your website. As Harry Truman once said "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." If you run something so offensive in your paper and on your website, expect to get a lot of flack about it, but at least have the guts to stand by your decision to run it! Why did you flip-flop on this "cartoon?"

What I find most appalling is that you would attempt to cover-up your actions by changing your website, so that those who came across emails & posts about the "cartoon" later in the day would not be able to see it & therefore think they had been mislead. It should be quite obvious to your readers now that they should not expect your paper to report the actual news, but only the right-wing, Bush Administration-approved, version.

think that will see ink in the sun-times? lemme know if they have the guts to run it.

:)

dg

ps. on edit, i have discovered that they have removed the jack ryan cartoon & replaced it with the teresa one. hmmm.....

24. This is just juvenile
While I'm all for equal balance and fairness when it comes to ridiculing both sides of the political spectrum, this is just petty and juvenile RW propaganda. It's a sad and pathetic attempt at humor -about as funny as, say, the GWB's re-election site's attempts to take humorous jabs at JFK and failing miserably :puke:

In the interest of "equal balance and fairness" I now expect GWB, Dick Cheney and Laura Bush to be portrayed in the same fashion in this newspaper due to their driving records. But I won't be holding my breath
