Are protests in NYC cancelled?
Or anything to that affect. I see a lot of that being posted but not quoted. Did Ridge or anyone else say anything about protests?

5. Does martial law mean that I can stay home from work?
I have to commute in during the week.

2. not yet and the protests will go on
there will be no way to stop them, just the sheer numbers that are expected to show up will see to that.

7. With a RED alert, they can halt air-traffic to NY so no one can get there.
And they can probably pretty much seal off the tunnels and bridges. I wouldn't put it past them.

3. Not yet, but they probably will try to
Seems that this is another politically motivated alert. First it gets Kerry leading in the polls off the front page and it sets things up for canceling the protests in NYC.

6. I can't wait for the day that this band of criminals is out
of my white house. I am not sure if they will allow Kerry to win.

9. You can count on them doing everything they can
to prevent that. They've already got their lawyers all lined up to take this election to the courts again.

10. He did not say a thing about the protests
but you can bet they are gonna do it.... he just laid the grondwork...
for martial law in NYC during the Convention

You must ask... what will be worst, cancelling the demonstrations "for our safety," or declaring martial law?

Think bout it and how well this is gonna play in Peoria

11. What??!!
I've been really busy the last few days and not paying close attn to the news or reading DU. I just found out about the "terror alert" a few minutes ago. This is the first I've heard about the possibility of cancelling the protests and after reading all the replies to this thread it seems to make sense that that's what they're working up to.

But I haven't seen anything specific in the news (DU or otherwise) regarding the cancellation of the protests. This is of particular interest to me, since my partner and I will be flying up to NYC to protest. Does anyone have specifics or links they can send to me?

14. Looks like they have found a way around the first amendment.
The Terror alert system.

Bill of Rights
Amendment I
