could bush be lying about this?
i heard this a few days ago and brushed it off, but something about it just kept nagging at me, so i wanted to discuss.

bush told a reporter that he didn't watch kerry's acceptance speech. he said he read about it the next day or something, but he didn't watch it. basically he was very dismissive of the issue, which i would expect... but is it really possible that he didn't even watch his opponent's speech? that is so unbelievable on so many levels, can he really be THAT out of touch?

deep down i want to believe that he watched it and couldn't think of anything to pick at, so rove told him to downplay it and say he didn't see it. there's very little upside to this, though. it allows you to belittle your opponent by suggesting that he's not even worth an hour of your time, but that could backfire. it lets you buy some time to come back with a response, but more than anything it says you are stunningly incompetent and willfilly ignorant to not realize you're in the political fight of your life...and losing.

if someone was openly challenging you for your job, and they were laying out their argument on national television, and YOU KNEW people were going to turn to you for a rebuttal of their argument, is there any way you wouldn't deem it important enough to watch?

this is so amazingly stupid that i KNOW that i must be missing something. can anyone see what hidden agenda they may have had on this?

1. you're surprised Bush couldn't be bothered with something job related?
He's the biggest sloth to ever hold the office of president. This doesn't surprise me - he wouldn't bother anything other than what strokes his ego.. and this certainly wouldn't have done it.

7. OK, now I've read the post. You're missing a possibility
He may have told the truth. The speech may have been after his bedtime.

6. If your biggest opponent was outlining his strategy for kicking your ass
out on the street, would you watch? Hell yes you would. You'd want to know what he has up his sleeve and you'd want to know how much credibility he has. Only a complete dead-from-the-neck up numbskull would pass up a chance of checking out the competition.

Do I believe bush* didn't watch? Hell no. I think he cried and blubbered on KKKarl's shoulder all the way throught Kerry's speech.

14. exactly
i mean, aren't there going to be people who ask themselves "if bush can't be bothered to listen to his political opponent's strategy, will he be bothered to listen to, say, various attack strategies from terrorists?" When will people finally ask bush (quoting "office space") "what exactly, would ya say, ya do?"

i'm starting to think that this man has the confidence that can only come from a rigged election.

13. And another scary option. Does he act dismissive of Kerry and other things
because he knows the fix is in and he doesn't have to worry or reply to the Democrats? Now that is frightening. Will this election also be stolen from under our noses? For the first time in my life I am actually paranoid about this election.

15. "Presidents are normally very busy..." Yeah, as in "Now watch this drive."
Sorry, but this bum-in-chief pResident deservedly doesn't get much shrift around here.

Also, Kerry's speech wouldn't fall under the classification of a "rally speech" full of "fluff."

16. Presidents may normally be very busy, but not Bush.
He is way too much of a lying, lazy, indifferent slackard to ever be busy with anything other than fucking off. His shirk ethic extends to every aspect of his life. He also is incapable of ever being truthful about any topic whatsoever. So he is lying.

17. at least two things wrong with that
-- the only thing Bush is "busy" with is politics. He spends zero time or attention on anything else, according to Paul O'Neill and common sense.

-- the lack of "specifics" in Kerry's speech is irrelevant to Bush. He's not listening to Kerry to see if he wants to vote for him, he's listening to formulate a strategy to attack.

18. Your reply is hilarious
A man that spends only 60% of the time doing his job, and the rest on vacation is too busy to watch a 1 hour speech by his opponent.

That's the best I've read all week. I hope to hear more from you.

i wouldn't expect him to follow rally speeches, but not watching the convention speech is just a few notches below, say, not showing up for the debates (which he may be considering).

Presidential Briefing 7AM- Fri morning

Bush: how'd that speech thang go last night?

Yessman lapdog: Oh, it was a pathetic failure, sir. This guy doesn't hold a candle to Your Majesty! <contemplates updating resume>

12. It was past his bedtime and he's too stupid to work the VCR to record it.
I honestly do not know whether or not he watched it. I look at it on a few levels. One, he did watch it, but didn't want to be asked any questions about it because he couldn't fashion a response. Two, he did watch it, but is being dismissive of John Kerry (the emporer syndrome). Three, he didn't watch it, because he really has no interest and is being dismissive of John Kerry (another version of the emporer syndrome). Four, he didn't watch it, because his handlers know he would be upset/uncontrollable when he realizes he can't hold a candle to John Kerry and will be toast in the debates.

As I said, I don't really know, but I hold the dimson in such low regard, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a temper tantrum and held his breath and kicked his feet and told the handlers that he didn't want to watch that mean man criticize him.

21. Honest to GOD
I think he was asleep. It was on WAY past his bedtime here in Texas. He adheres to a VERY strict bedtime. And he adheres to sticking his head in the sand a lot.

That's why he's got Rove to watch those things for him!

But it didn't really surprise me. He's already told us he doesn't read newspapers (or much of anything) and frankly, I wonder if he could have even understood Kerry's speech.
