Kerry "SPOOF" E-mail
I've received two e-mails today which appear to be phony solicitations for donations for John Kerry.

When you roll over the link to donate the following url is revealed:

The e-mails came to an address that is set up in my cat's name that I use to catch spam.

The contact url - **www.JohnKerrys.com** opens to a page that says it is available to own for $500.

Has anyone else received these???

I'm sure that this whole deal is a FRAUD... HEADS UP, people!

1. Yeah, look at the contribution page
For one, you can no longer contribute to Kerry-Edwards. And secondly, they ask for your pin number for your debit card (and you can't give a credit card number). This should be reported.

2. I don't doubt that's some kind of redirect/attempted fraud.
The main site is in India (yahoogoogle.biz), and is registered to an Indian national. Not necessarily saying the person to whom that domain is registered is the jerk who's trying to harvest money from people, mind you, but that the overall domain is owned by someone in India.

If you go to the July 31 entry on this site:

http://www.utahfordean.com/

... you'll see that you're not the first to see this, and probably won't be the last. I also found a link through Google to a Republican weblogger's site saying he, too received this solicitation. He looked into it (ran a WHOIS search, like I did) and discovered the same thing.

A kick for the post, in case anybody would consider e-mailing a donation this way. I usually go straight to the web sites, myself, but I suppose it's not beyond belief somebody else might not be as paranoid as I -- I probably was fitted for my tinfoil hat around the same time my mother gave me my name.
