My letter to the editor re: DNC 2004.
Dear Editor:

I saw my first political convention in 1980, when I was 14. Twenty-four years later, I’ve watched every convention of the two major parties, and I have to say, this year’s Democratic National Convention was the best I’ve ever seen!

I watched all four nights on C-SPAN, to avoid the know-nothing commentaries of America’s elitist, out-of-touch punditocracy. And what an amazing four nights they were! The convention embodied the art of oratory, with memorable speeches by Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Tammy Baldwin, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Carol Moseley-Braun, Howard Dean, Barack Obama, Al Sharpton, Wesley Clark, Dennis Kucinich, and John Edwards, among others.

The speeches, in fact, were so good, I was concerned that they had set the bar too high for the main event — John Kerry’s acceptance speech. Fortunately, the senator was more than up to the task. To say that his speech impressed me would be a gross understatement!

Before he addressed the DNC, I believed that when I voted, it would be not so much for Kerry as against George W. Bush, who I consider one of our worst presidents. However, thanks to Kerry’s incredible speech, I now will gladly cast my vote for the senator on November 2nd.

Thanks to this year’s DNC, I feel good about being a Democrat for the first time since the so-called “Republican Revolution” of 1994. It also makes me feel hopeful about my country’s future for the first time since December 2000.

Thank you, Democrats! You are the true American patriots.

I don't know what I like more - the letter, in and of itself, or the fact that you gave a damn enough to write one. And then SEND IT!!! I think it has a great chance at being published - it's a good read - which they appreciate, and it's short - which they LOVE.

By the way -
