1. I did this some time ago...

6. I've been using the Net (not the tube) as my source of news for years
The problem with television news didn't start with their uncritical attitude towards Bush. Before that, there was more than you ever wanted to know about OJ and Monica.

My own favorite news folder includes:

Foreign links:
The BBC, for decades a traditional source of news and information for those living in areas deprived of a free and independent press
The Guardian Unlimited (UK)
Haaretz (Tel Aviv), a fine source of news on the Middle East

Liberal/Progressive perodicals:
The Progressive
The Nation
Mother Jones

Progressive news digests:
CommonDreams
TomPaine.com
TruthOut

Online news and opinion:
Salon.com
Greg Palast

Establishment media:
The New York Times
The Washington Post
The Los Angeles Times
The San Francisco Chronicle (SF Gate)

7. That list looks pretty similar to mine...
go figure. San Francisco Chronicle heh? Funny, I live there and usually do not look at their site.

By the way, do you have to pay for Salon.com? Al Franken mentions them as one of his many sources from time to time.

8. It's best to pay for Salon
I bought a subscription three years ago and think it's worth the money. You can also get a day pass, but then you have to put up with advertising.

Yes, I live in NorCal, so I put the Chronicle on my list to check California news.

10. Free Republic is easier to drink in than CNN.
With Free Republic, you know what you're going to see, and I often am amused by some of the stuff there, in fact, the news stories they post are mostly from legitimate outlets like The Telegraph and I often read those for information purposes.

I never read CNN online, and my viewership of their cable network is WAY down from say 5 years ago. Their only programs that I could even think of tuning into would be Crossfire and Larry King. Nothing else is worth the time, life is short.

11. Changed my home page from CNN

My brain must have been fried. When I got my new computer I had CNN as my Home Page.

After reading one of the threads today I realized that it was stupid on my part.

Now I have the LA Times as my Home Page. I get more local news and I don't have to wake up to those cursed letters...CNN.

Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 02:15 AM by Dover
second hand. Don't own cable, get my news from a variety of sources.

It's only hard to give up if you've become addicted, I suppose.
...or maybe brainwashed and mesmerized by the adrenaline rush of sensationalized 'news'.

Try this instead, if you dont have it bookmarked already:

13. Same here...
I refuse to get cable TV and I really don't miss it. All my news comes from the internet. Besides, watching spin news makes my blood boil.

16. CNN = Faux Lite.
If I wanted Kool-Aid, I'd take it from the source, Faux.

I still rely on the good grey New York Times (my default home page), BBC, NPR and good old DU.

Attempting to find genuine "news" on other major domestic outlets is only "slumming."

19. Already deleted after awful Dem covention coverage
I switched to MSNBC.

Though no longer on favorites, if I want to see what is on there the channel still works if typed in manually on remote.

Yesterday the urge was too great and there was Wolf Blitzer pimping for GOP as usual in interview with Byrd.

20. News Anchors or Porn Stars?
Somehow I can't tell the difference anymore. I think we ought to look into the Two Minutes' Hate thing with a daily CNN-bashing thread here!
