You are aware that the terrorist threat is about stopping the protests
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 12:38 AM by genius
The thing is completely phoney. Bush wants to be able to stop the NYC protests. Next he'll stop the election. I'll be interested to see how committed the protestors are to getting rid of the terrorist dictator.

7. well, you know, that's what all the ORGANIZING is for
All the planning and strategizing that has been going on for months.

tell me, what is the use of snitty sanctimonious remarks implying that we will be inadequate to the tasks, or cowards, coming from someone thousands of miles away from the place where we are all putting ourselves at risk?

Perhaps you should try being active yourself? Or at least looking up the meaning of solidarity in the dictionary.

8. Hey, I'm on your side.
I have friends involved in organizing the NYC protest and they are pretty scared of what Bush is pulling. The news is buying Bush's games and we need to get the truth out - that the alert is nothing more than a tactic to stop the protests.

2. I was waiting for someone to figure this
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 12:43 AM by Capn Sunshine
Note the "hot targets" are all involvd in global banking/IMF WTO support?

I was wondering how they would figure a way to call anti-WTO protesters terrorists.

Bingo.

PS plans call for a million people in NYC in the streets. Godspeed, everyone.

3. I'm afraid I must disagree
The Republican convention is over 3 weeks away. To say that the terrorist threat is phoney to stop protest at the convention is crediting the Bush administration with advance planning...something they have never shown before.

11. BUT...
I think what the republithugs are forgetting is that protests are to make a show of solidarity, and that can be still accomplished even if they impose martial law or whatever.
It tips their hand and forces them to display exactly what type of regime this is trying to be, perhaps even more dramatically. I think the WORST thing people can do is start to buy into the fearmongering and pull their punches.

INSTEAD: I humbly suggest that those organizing these protests be ENCOURAGED rather than DISCOURAGED, because the regime is showing that THEY instead are the fearful ones. They fear dissent, they fear truth. I would hope that every protesor bring a videocam and document everything they see, and continually pass the tapes (or DVDs) through the crowds to collectors who then store them in safe places before they're confiscated.

Fighting oppression requires bravery, and anyone who tries to steal that bravery, even those on the same side, are doing the work of the oppressors.

15. Hehe ...
... ALL the terrorist threat warnings have been foney. They drag out this old dog whenever they want to mute news coverage of something. This time around, they did it to take coverage away from the Democratic convention on the Sunday Morning News programs.

I guess they didn't have time to dig a big enough pit and didn't want to be bothered with stringing all that nasty little razor wire. Rove wants every penny they've got to spend on attack ads tearing Kerry's voting record apart from now til Nov. Gotta admit it though, they're a clever bunch of asswipes. Scare the shit out of the public, make them believe they saved Murika from "imminent" danger and all at taxpayer's expense. The mad genious of KKKarl at work.

9. Not one single doubt in my mind what these "terrorist threats" are for....
A) To allow them to declare a lockdown and "martial law" to thwart the 1st amendment rights of the protesters. (Reasons for not wanting the protesters is an obvious one - doesn't look too good...they have enough problems trying to combat the images of Kerry w/ the band of brothers on stage w/ him)

B) To show America that its "scary" times and in times of uncertainty its important to "stay the course"...ie. 4 more years...

C) To show America that they are making America "safer" when an attack never materializes - thanks to them...so another reason to keep them.

D) To show America that in the event of any attack, what heros they are and once again - keep them in office...

E) Take all focus off the Kerry Campaign in the next month forward so that all news coverage and discussion on the lips of people is "Terrorist Attacks"....

I fear them more than any Terrorist Attack....

13. The occupants of New York ...
... ARE the protesters to the GOP convention. Methinks the city itself will rise in protest to this insult to the memory of 9/11.
