Proof that stupid people are Bush's best chance for getting elected.
He's giving his stump speech in the rust belt and tells the crowd that Kerry will increase the deficit with all his spending and they all cheer.

This is at the same time the White House is announcing a new record deficit of $445 billion..

No wonder we get the idiots in office on this country with morons like them voting.

Americans believe Saddam terror link
By Andrew Gumbel in Los Angeles
24 April 2004

A majority of Americans still believes Saddam Hussein was in cahoots with al-Qa'ida and that Iraq either had weapons of mass destruction or a programme for developing them, according to a new opinion poll.

The poll, conducted by the University of Maryland, showedmost respondents were unaware of the testimony of David Kay, the administration's chief weapons inspector, that he had found no weapons, or that of Richard Clarke, the former counter-terrorism tsar whose book Against All Enemies has been the talk of Washington.

A staggering 82 per cent of respondents believed most experts supported the notion that Iraq was providing "substantial support" to al-Qa'ida - a contention that President Bush has been forced to disavow. Almost 60 per cent were unaware that world opinion was against the war in Iraq, with 21 per cent saying the world was behind the US-led invasion and 38 per cent saying views were "evenly divided".

The poll also showed a correlation between people's ignorance and their political affiliation. Among those who believed WMD had been found in Iraq, 72 per cent said they would vote to re-elect Mr Bush in November and 23 per cent said they supported his Democratic challenger, John Kerry. Among those who knew that no WMD had been found,74 per cent supported Mr Kerry and 23 per cent backed the President

4. re: stupid people
The American public is largely suspicious of people and leaders that they perceive to be "intellectuals" (as expanded in The Bush Dyslexicon); there is a strong anti-intellectual movement in the states and this is probably why Gore lost in 2000. People saw W as a guy they could relate to, whereas Gore was, well, he used multi-syllable words and could add numbers correctly...
Americans do not trust "smart" people. Furthermore, the American public, for the large part, as been scared by the Bush Administration with constant fear mongering.

9. Not trusting smart people is stupid!
Would these folks want morons designing and building their cars? Would they want drunks constructing their houses? This "anti-intellectualism" meme is a myth, I think. What Americans don't like are con men and hucksters.

10. well, we're getting stupider
I've seen in more than a few places Europeans commenting about how the US is an "undeveloping" country - meaning, we were once at the top of things with our infrastructure, health care, schools, etc. But, now we are rapidly falling behind, which will have huge long term consequences.

8. Kindly remember
that it is highly likely that only Bush supporters were allowed at this event. They are like drug addicts in denial-so they cheer on Shrub even when he spouts nonsense.

13. Books
Most people in High School looked down on dweebs, nerds, brainiacs etc. Reading books other than one that had to be read was not cool. TV is where most of them get their education and they don't watch Discovery or History channels. These folk are the Middle Class and lower that think Bush is great because he speaks their language and is tough on people that hate our freedoms. They don't have a clue about how the Neo Fascists are screwing them over.

14. An anecdote from former girlfriend freep that proves your point
Hadn't seen her in five years. Had dinner last Friday night for grins.

Her: "Guess you're voting for Kerry"
Me: "Of course"
Her: "You know, Bush is for abortion rights and Kerry flip flops on that"
Me: "I can see you are still woefully misinformed or purposefully shilling for Bush among your girlfriends"
Her: "No really. Bush is in favor of choice for women"
Me: "I'll send you some links. Check please"

15. Dumb voters, and I'm getting frustrated
I spoke to two workers today and listen to our conversation.

One young woman said "How can Kerry run the country, he can't even run Massachusetts?'

My response was that the legislative branch of government doesn't run anything, they advise, consent, have oversight, and make laws. She looked at me like I had two heads.

One of my Union pals asked what he had accomplished in the Senate. My reply was that he had a 96% AFL-CIO voting record, so if you wanted to go into his record issue by issue, we'd need a couple of hours. I also said that I thought John McCain was an effective Senator (I said this as a tactical ploy, because he is a big John McCain fan) can he name any one of McCain's accomplishments?

Finally, I told them that an election with a sitting President is about the Incumbent, could they please cite all that Mr. Bush has done to help the working class.

Empty, dumb, blank, and stupid looks.

End of debate.
