1. Which poll do you believe?
Wasn't CNN the ones who had Bush up by +10% in the weeks before the 2000 election? If you believe them, then he got no bounce. If you believe the other poll(s) he got a bounce.

7. Gallup...
... could not poll their way out of a paper bag. They have proven this over and over.

Do not let the results of a Gallup poll sway you. They have no credibility.

15. Well, it just proves Gallup is a corrupt and thoroughly infiltrated
organization.

Period.

You could count on you one hand the number of Trustworthy Media or Polling Outlets in the Empire.

Gallup is a Soviet-style "polling" organization.

4. Zogby understands the situation best
There isn't going to be a big bounce. The ridiculous 15% number came out of Rove's playbook. They are merely managing expectations to make people think Kerry is losing traction. Read on...

Pollster John Zogby (July 8, after Edwards was announced as Kerry's running mate): “This is not a big bounce electorate. Let me repeat again: we are a nation that is split down the middle, polarized and hardened. What happened in the past 48 hours is that Undecideds are back down to the 5%-7% range. Kerry’s announcement of Edwards as his running mate brought some of those who defected into the undecided camp in June back into the fold. At the same time, it seems to have also re-energized Bush supporters. Where we are today is probably where we are going to be through much of the summer, if not through most of this campaign

5. so the convention drove away independents and undecideds?
I thouht all the military macho posturing was supposed to have the opposite effect. The fact that they were trying to attract the moderates and swing voters is all that kept me from smashing my TV during the convention.
With the exception of a few speakers, the whole thing made me gag.

6. If it looked fake to us...
...it probably looked as ridiculous to the rest of the nation. The macho posturing did nothing to forward the democratic agenda, and obviously did nothing to attract the other half of the country that never bothers to vote. I really believe that if we had shown a truly progressive face, perhaps we would have lost swing voters but we would have energized the non-voters enough to see we could make a difference.

9. Get Real - if bush is elected it is because he is "strong on terror"
If you look inside of any of the polls pre convention, you will see that Kerry and Dems poll higher on all issues (economy, education, etc) except "terror" and "who will keep us safe."

Dems have to make the sale that they can protect the US from Al Qaeda.

Dems can also put together a reasonable foreign policy, and be strong w/o being BULLIES. Which GWB apparently cant wont do.

If you look at the new polls, you will see that it is working, so your interp is off-base.

10. I'm still gagging... the DNC blunders again
Once again, the DNC tried to make our candidates and our convention look like a bunch of Repugs lite. There was so much war-hawking and macho bullshit happening on that stage it made me sick. "Which party is which?", I actually thought out loud at one point. Tried and true, the DNC takes the liberal base for granted, strap on the muzzles and confiscate the signs, tell us all to hush and look like good little happy Democrats while they try to impersonate the Thugs.

Grrrrrrr....!!!!!!

16. HAHAH...what a crock. Anyone who SAYS they believe polls that skew RIGHT
are not to be believed.

The faked outrage supposedly from lefties is blatant. The blaming the Dem party and the candidate is blatant.

Fostering divide on the left is a very OLD, very PLAYED OUT tactic from the GOP and too many of us are aware of this ploy.

Don't fall for it. The GOP is SCARED of our unity. Don't let ANYONE screw with heads. Even here on DU. This would be one of the FIRST places the operatives would come to spew.

8. I commented here that I thought there weren't many undecideds
and that there would be a minimal bounce - if any. Just because the "media" in order to push their coverage said that this is where people will get to "know" Kerry, doesn't make it so. Most people know where they stand and it has nothing to do with Kerry. It all has to do with hatred of Bush and fundamental ideology. Anybody who thinks this is like elections of the past has not been paying attention or isn't mad enough. I'm pissed - Bush is turning us into a nation of idiots and we need to stop him.

12. There was little bounce... There was EXPECTED to be little bounce
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 09:45 AM by Frodo
There aren't many people sitting on that fence to bounce back and forth.

Bush won't get the bounce he might expect either.

We're going to go in to the debates with a fluctuating tiny lead for each candidate. Things will clear up after the debates.

14. The truth is, the harder we work, the better the result will be.

And it doesn't matter if the polls show us to be behind, ahead, have no chance, winning in a landslide -- polls are spin, attempts to measure the unmeasureable, and filler so that journalists don't have to to the hard work of reporting the actual issues.

I believe that any of us who watched the convention came away more committed, more energized, and more united. That was the goal of the convention, and I believe it was a total success.

18. There's word of an ABC/WPost poll due out with better results
There's no question that there was little to no "bounce".

But that was largely anticipated. There's just less to work with out there right now.

Wait for the debates.
