"Al-qui-eeeeeee-da"?
Anyone know why the official Bushy pronunciation changed yesterday from 'al-que-da' to 'al-que-eeeeee-da'. Heard it first from Tom Ridge I think, then other spokesmen, then this morning from Faux News, which clinched it that it is now the official Bush pronunciation right off the GOP fax machine.

Why the change?

1. Since Bush can't read
the "official" pronunciation gets changed each time he opens his mouth. "Quick, stop the presses! Email the newsbunnies at Fox!"

2. Bush
Okay, Bush himself just said AL-QUE-EEEEE-DA in this Rose Garden announcement. What the hell is the change for?

5. But...
It has never been our government's pronunciation and now they suddenly in one day all are saying it and, if, FauxNews is you know the word was given to them to change. Just wondering why, after 3 years, this seems to be a new policy that all are to follow. I always look for things that suddenly change and want to know why. There is a reason.

6. Probably because they say it so much that people mentally tune it out now.
Change the pronounciation and people might notice the name again. It's like crying "Wolf! Wolf! Wolf! Wolf! Walf!"

7. al-Caw -- i --- da
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 11:15 AM by Malikshah
Is the proper way-- the Arabic term transliterated is al-Qa'ida

The term starts with a "Q" which, in Arabic, sounds like the sound a Crow sounds (Caw, caw...)

THere's no dipthong (ai as in Paint) here-- the a and the i is separated by the Arabic "hamza" the sound of which is a glottal stop.

thus

al-Caw-glottal stop--i--dah

:)

BTW-- the stress is on the first syllable here.

mispronunciation of "mullahs" as "moo-lahs." I wouldn't read anything into the way he mangles the language. He's just a dumbshit.
