Rove's response to DNC "be nice" strategy
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 11:02 AM by grasswire
"Mr. Bush's advisers plan to cap the month at the Republican convention in New York, which they said would feature Mr. Kerry as an object of humor and calculated derision. . . ."

This is the WH political strategy in response to the Kerry strategy to be kinder and gentler and not engage in attacks.

Why do Dems continually bring knives to gun fights?

1. because we look like angry northerners when we attack
Remember, you can only be mean if you have a southern accent and a big huge, fool-the-rubes smile on your face. :eyes:

2. IMHO it's going to backfire
"humor and derision" -- translates to "immaturity and desperation."

remember the 92 GOP convention, they were so nasty they turned a lot of people off.

4. I'd Agree
I mean I think our convention was very effective at what it was supposed to do, and I think their convention won't help them nearly as much.

10. If they had their druthers,
I'll bet they'd pass on the convention. I think we will see a lot of unhappy delegates who aren't in the RW/Fundie camp....and just what are they going to point to for accomplishments? And then there's Dimson's acceptance speech.....could a meltdown occur before our eyes? Stay tuned.

7. I think you're right about that, that a repeat of the '92
convention would be a disaster for Bush.

So come on, Rove, make it as NASTY as you possibly
can.

12. What was so nasty about the 92 RNC?
I was 11 at the time so I don't remember it all that well.

13. Pat Buchanan's declaration of culturewar was the keynote address
And it was pretty much downhill all the way from there until "God Bless America" wrapped up night #4 on the appropriately self-righteous note.

Worst convention in modern history (Chicago doesn't count, since the mayhem was not an integral part of the convention planning process).

3. Dems need to start calling shurb and his campaign out on the negative
attacks like they are doing. But if they constantly point a figure at the thugs throwing mud their negative ads and campaign can back fire with the public.

6. I think that the Dems are trying their hand at some
political jiu-jitsu (using the attacker's own strength to defeat him), and I think it just might work.

8. Looks to me like the Dope got Roped
Precisely what Kerry wanted. The electorate sees a challenger offering real vision and a positive future for America. Bush offers attacks on that opponent.

They were put into check by Kerry's move, there response has them in a potential mate in three(months that is).

9. They utilize the politics of hate
and lying for one reason: it works. Just ask Saxby Chambliss, Norm Coleman, Bob Erlich, or GW. This nastiness then filters down to the voter who gets the idea to sabotage a co-worker who is up for promotion.
